Living in
living in Florida is not a problem for them.
It's a problem for you as far as getting home time.
You'll need to find a 3 or 4 week on duty job with
A week off.
Since oilfield work is local, you'll have to spend
Your own time and money to go home.
That gets costly real quick.speedyk Thanks this. -
Some of us don't want to be OTR. I get to sleep in my own bed every night and I don't eat and shower at truck stops. I'm that guy rolling down the road every day out in the patch with a BIG middle finger in the air, waving it to all the Arabs in the Middle East because the USA isn't sending them billions of dollars for their oil.

Alberta is about to be on fire. There aren’t enough trucks in Canada or the US to move their oil. Not that it would help if there were.
All you guys who like the oilfield gigs. This is one to watch. They’ve become landlocked due to litigation going on, on both sides of the border. No pipelines to pump it out, no rail to move it during harvest.
Last report I read, it was down to $17 a barrel. -
If you like working 70-100+ hrs a weeks go right ahead. 24 hour resets. 16 hr days. You can have that.
Western flyer and Kstrong86 Thank this. -
You are preaching to an army guy. Trust me I’ve put in more hours in a week then some of them oilfield guys. And don't even let me mention the combat zone. It’s not about liking it. It’s about doing what you have to do to take care of your family to make sure bills are paid and mouths are fed which I have three mouths to feed. I have goals of purchasing a home and having my credit in the 700s by 2021. It’s about sacrificing my time so my family can enjoy theirs without worries. I just have goals and want to put my my endorsements to work as well as my TWIC card. I’ve paid for them so might as well put them to work. Unfortunately in my area LTLs are not hiring in Orlando, FL. Trucking just sucks in Florida period. Lol

Odessa Texas has been going bananas for a couple years. Prices for everything are out the wazoo. But...but but but...so good megas have jumped in in the last few months and I will bet that's driving the wages down. Just noticed pump prices drop...at thanksgiving ! That may be a bad omen.
Oilfield is hard and fickle but in Texas there is always a need for frac water and to the rig fuel haulers. You just have to be flexible.
Want to make scary big money and you have an iron constitution? Work on the rigs and don't go out with the gang on off time week.Kstrong86 Thanks this. -
How do I find out about Alberta?
-
Yea I’m looking more towards frac water or working on the rigs. Going out with people won’t be my problem. I don’t like hanging out with people. That means I spend money and besides I don’t drink. So going out would be pointless. I work stack money and spend money on the family.

I really can’t answer that question. You might ask in the Canadian driver forum. I would imagine that a company would have to speak up for you, to obtain a work visa.
But be advised. You do NOT want to be driving there right now. Transporting anything without heavy winter driving experience, could cost you your life.
Roads turn ugly in minutes, and close at the drop of a hat. Chains are a way of life on the Okanagan in winter.
