So what about the obverse? Do you have a place you can go to get load matching gig(s)? Bulletin board or website? If I have a gig where can I go to find a driver?

Best advice yet. Intermodal sucks but it's a great place to start power only. Forget doing anything with any of the Megas. I did my first year and a half hauling off the Port of Baltimore with a 16k truck. Spent that whole time dumping the revenue back into the truck and then bought a trailer. Got my own numbers and have been doing what actually makes me happy now.

For those who think pre-deregulation days were so great are delusional. Before deregulation, large corporations and unions would prevent any sort of competition from ever competing. They had control of the entire industry. This was the reason deregulation was enacted. Bringing back the free market was the goal. Now we actually have competition (free market).

Power only can be tough. Usually lots of deadheading involved for long distances. You might get lucky with an out and back load but they're not consistent. You have come this far, have you thought about maybe picking up a used dry van? You can pick up a decent one for $12k if you look around.

WoW I haven't been on here in years! I can't believe how unproductive and childish the crowd has gotten. Answer the question or move tf on.....

OP call Cardinal! I've heard that JBHunt will accept you I think within 90 days! But where you REALLY need to be is with Cayote Brokerage!!!!! They have just taken over UPS freight also has some QVC & J CREW! You usually need I think 6 months of having your own authority BUT if you get with other owner operators they will give you some of their work. Right now MT Trailers have been moving from $475-1200 per trailer. Hundreds of Trailers. But you just have to know someone. Plus they have several routes for power only. Until then call Mega Carriers. A lot of them pay way more to move under your own authority and insurance

I wouldn't wish any of that on my worst enemy. CHEAP FREIGHT! You, sir are the reason the rates are so low in dry van. Coyote?! Cardinal?! UPS?! Seriously?!

There is a never ending amount of information to be had here on TTR. If the OP, or anyone else doesn't take the time to use it to their advantage that's their own fault. Use the SEARCH function and LEARN.

Coyote and UPS not such a great deal Do the math, don't be a mule. You will not be in business long if you fail to do so.

I think you’re giving up too much doing power only with your authority, you’re better off getting your own trailer and doing your own thing.
FreyMiller and Prime both have programs for own authority pulling their trailer. Say what you want about Prime but you can bet any refrigerated shipper in the country has a Prime trailer sitting there. Johnson Feed or JFI has an own authority program. The broker I pull a lot for, his carrier has started a program like that as well. These are all reefer companies. JBHunt has power only own authority but I don’t know what the rates are like.
