@Chinatown I just talked with a recruiter from Freymiller and they are basically saying the same things I heard from Butler, which I liked already, and that their average haul is 1100 miles with better stop pay, which I love the sound of. Thanks for putting me on to them! And if @Ssand Man is around here somewhere, if you give me the relevant info I will put you down as my referral when I put in the application.
Butler vs Prime?

I started with Butler as a noob in March and like it so far.
Only three weeks (160 hrs) in the trainers truck.
Started at .36 and got a .04 rase at 60k miles.
Another .02 if you hit 10500 miles in the calendar month which is easy to do.
I'd say the 1100 mile average run you heard about is accurate, I've had 5-6 between 2100-2500 miles so far. Just finished a SLC to NC run.
Probably 60-65% drop and hook.
Lots of Phoenix so if you live there you should have no problem getting home.Last edited: Nov 15, 2018
stogiefiend Thanks this. -
Check out Danny Herman. You can get some good info on them if you search this website. Good long runs, average length of haul 1500 miles. Good bonuses and they run nice freight lanes usually always i-40 or south. Late model T680s. You're right in their wheelhouse there in AZ.
They only hire fresh CDL holders if they did well in their CDL training school though. Are you doing well?stogiefiend Thanks this. -
It might sound like a silly reason to not work for a company, but since they put religious things on all their truck/trailers I can't work for them. I know how crazy that sounds but I am who I am. Thanks for the heads up though, everything else about them makes them sounds like a really great company!McCauley Thanks this.

I worked for them for a while and I'm not aligned with their beliefs either, so i just paid no attention to it. Really enjoyed my time there.

I am actually leaning towards them as my number one choice. I saw somewhere on here that Freymiller has driver cams in their trucks, I hope that is not true. Butler seems like a great company for a new driver and when I asked if they have driver cams the recruiter laughed and said he wouldn't work there if they did so that made me feel even better about the company.

this is the logical way to approach the situation (if you can even call it that). I might give them a call and see what they have to say, see if I can stop being stubborn

If you're talking about Butler out of KC then they do have a camera that faces in and out.
It's only supposed to record for a few seconds before and after an incident, If the light turns red then it recorded something. Bump a dock to hard and it goes off.
Are they watching you unknowingly anytime they want?
They say no and the third party company that monitors the system says no also.
They say that the camera company looks at all of the recorded events and then forwards to Butler only the things they think they should look at.
In other words bumping a dock to hard is something Butler is not interested in.
The camera doesn't bother me in the least bit. At the end of the day the window curtains get pulled and the camera's gone.Last edited: Nov 15, 2018

I will add that I paid for my own school and researched starter companies for almost a year.
In the end one major thing that was important to me was NOT spending a couple/few months living in a box with some dude (trainer) that I don't know.
It came down to two for me. Schneider because you're only living with a trainer for 1 week and TransAm which is 11 days sharing the box.
I didn't even have Butler on my radar but a recruiter showed up at my school and had brought a shiny new truck for us to drool over out in the parking lot (this can be yours).
Three weeks with a trainer was more than I wanted to do but at least it wasn't 2-3 months.
In the end a starter company is just that, a place to get your first year in and then move on if you choose so 'for me' it isn't about who pays a few cents more or not.
That first year on your own is still just training.
For me three weeks living in a box with someone I don't know was one of the most uncomfortable experiences in my life. It sucks! I couldn't even imagine doing it for a few months.
Another thing I like about Butler is they only have 300 trucks. Once you've been to the yard a few times people recognize you and call you by name.Last edited: Nov 15, 2018
