    I have been driving OTR and regional for 6 years , today received a ticket for not obeying road signe , ( no truck traffic ) I 20 west of ATL , stopped at the truck stop for 30 min , CB traffic and GPS said I 20 was closed due to an accident , take a different route , checked map , GPS , phone GPS all say the same by pass , so I take it , see one no truck signe , stop and decide what to do , can't turn around , no side roads , 2 city ( Villa Rica GA) on the only spot I could turn around , yep blue lites , I pull over , talk to the officer , tell him the situation , get my ticket . Just last week same thing , highway blocked , traffic re routed to ALT route , no truck signe , I stop and ask and was told yes I can go through because highway is blocked , I figured it might be the same thing , 2 different areas though . This is my first ticket in 30 years , do I pay or fight it . Ticket says I have a court date in Jan , can I just pay the ticket and be done ?

    Were you on 78? Just wondering. But I know GA can be anal with the no truck route business. It’ll cost you to fight it, and you may still lose. Good old boy system trumps actual legal system in some towns.

    In some rural towns, the Chief of Police is the judge. That would be a clue in your decision.

    Fight it. You should also look into drivers legal plan. They help with these kind of things.

    Yes on 78 , I crossed from the pilot over 20 , looked ok on the map and GPS , not the best route , but I 20 was closed due to the accident , or I would have not even consider the route , I was not just looking for a new route lol

    Always fight. Right or wrong,. always contest it.

    I've been popped for speeding 3 times in the last 5 years. Lawyered up for each one. Each one was dismissed.

    I had a similar ticket to yours in Illinois a few years ago. Road was closed and they had a detour. I was following the detour,.. but somehow lost track of the signs. GPS showed a route to turn left. I took it. As I came into a town intersection,.. Barney Fife local sheriff pulls me over and writes me up for failure to obey traffic device. On paper it looked like I ran a red light or stop sign. Carried 3 points.

    Again,.. I lawyered up. Got an email from lawyer,... dismissed.

    Do what you want,.. but personally,. I will never blindly bend over and take any ticket with out getting lawyer first.

    Also,.. all these road lawyers,.. legal plans,.. ignore those. All they are is a service that pulls lawyers on a list out of a hat and charges a service fee for the privilege. What ever the county or town you got the ticket in,.. look up a local layer,.. someone who will know the judge or state attorney who can get dumb things like this dropped. Usually doesnt cost more than $250 - $300 and you dont even have to show up in court.

    @nite vision if you have a steady work history, just pay it and be done. It’s not worth the b/s involved. You don’t have a history of getting tickets, one ticket won’t effect you. It’s not a moving violation so your car insurance won’t go up.

    30 yrs clean 6 in a truck is a good track record. Now you get to start over.

    Not a big deal. Stuff happens
