So there I was, relaxing at home with finally a day off. First one in a few weeks, or so I thought. Boss calls me up and asks how fast I can get to my truck. We have an oversize load broke down in Oak Grove, mo. “Conveniently” that’s where I park my truck. So 30 minutes later I pull into the truck stop and jump into my truck to go find the other guy. It’s 11:00 by now and Missouri has a 12 noon today cutoff on all oversize until Monday.
I find the other guy, hook a chain up and drag his truck out from under the trailer, get hooked up and beat feet for the border. I made it with about negative 5 minutes to spare. Thankfully I only had to take it 200 miles to meet another driver. Heading back home now.
I hate being rushed, especially width a 15’ tall stretch load.
5 out of the last 7 loads have been secured for me when i picked them up. I’m starting to feel like a box jockey.
