I haul crude as a company driver in West Texas. I talk with lots of O/O. Pay is all over the map but way more than I'm make. I've been saving as much as I can for a starter truck to haul crude as an O/O. Any advice or information anyone can share would be much appreciated.

How much did they say they making?

Depends on the load. Definitely way more than I'm making as a company driver. Enough that three company drivers I have met on locations in the last month have bought their own trucks.

I got the truck and have sent out applications.

Easily over one hundred grand with a reliable truck and some business smarts. From there it will depend on your work ethic, your business skills, the oil economy, the amount of debt you have to carry and what you have to spend on truck maintenance and repairs. While all of that may have you foaming at the mouth, I have also seen first hand a lot of owner-operators go belly up and end up with large debts. It is a major step which should not be taken lightly.

I make over $100k now as company driver. So your saying for another $50k I can have 4 times the headache and all of the risk.
What was I thinking?rabbiporkchop Thanks this.
