This is something you find in the "classic car" market quite a bit. There's some years/models which are really popular and as a result they have some collectors value. Problem is, not all of them are created equal, and some of the prices you see these cars go for at auction create unrealistic expectations of worth.
When I worked at a restoration shop, I saw several examples of "It was worth this much to me", up until the point where the customer got the estimate of how much it was going to cost them to get whatever poked-pig they bought made into something worth having.
Sometimes people don't understand how much this:
....costs to have done. You're looking at a small piece of rust repair on a "rust free" car the guy bought for $18,000. The aftermarket panels you see here were the easy part. There was also a lot of "from scratch" pieces that had to be made, and that takes time. I don't remember what the final cost for the rust repair was on this stupid car, but I do know it was more than he paid for it.Slowpoke KW, BigBob410, tony97905 and 22 others Thank this. -

Happy Birthday @Oxbow
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.
Finished up my local stuff in Savannah about 5:30 PM last night, grabbed my empty 280 wing tooling and hauled arse (at a blistering 64.8 mph) towards Tulsa. Had serious anxiety about what I'd run into around Atlanta. In the end, there were some true idiots on the road but not one single showdown, backup, accident, just heavy traffic. Made it to the Loves in Palestine, AR where I'm sitting waiting on the nanny to tell me I can proceed. IF I can keep up this 63 mph average I can make it to the airport in Tulsa, drop this trailer, grab an empty, drop that at the yard in Ft Worth and boggity home, all without having to take another 10. If I don't then I'll be taking 10 somewhere less than 50 miles from home. I've never complained or worried about e-logs and in fact have never noticed anything negative, not to mention the positive of being able to tell dispatch, "e-logs say I can't". However if I get stuck that close to home it will be the second time in the 8 years I've been on them. The last time was about 6 years ago I had to take 10 just 43 miles from home.
So as soon as my 10 clicks I'm going to resume my lightning fast 64.8 pace into @ShooterK2 territory and keep watching the clock and doing the math against the GPS.Slowpoke KW, BigBob410, peterbilt_2005 and 21 others Thank this. -
Thanks Catalinaflyer!
I'm not on elogs, but isn't there an exception that allows 16 hrs. occasionally?BigBob410, peterbilt_2005, 1951 ford and 13 others Thank this. -
If I’m only 43 miles from home for time off...... guess what?
That’s right I’ll be home in an hour.
Elogs or not.
If it happens what? 3 or 4 times a year how much prison time you think I’ll get?
Conjugal visits?
Think I’ll have steak for my last meal?
I wouldn't make it a habit. I’ve only violated once in the last year, 20 miles from the barn.
I’m pulling for ya though.IH Truck Guy, Slowpoke KW, BigBob410 and 22 others Thank this. -
I sure ain’t no expert on elogs, but can’t you use “personal conveyance” when empty and headed home nowadays?BigBob410, peterbilt_2005, 1951 ford and 17 others Thank this.
