I am spec. out a new truck.
Sales guy said something about the axle spread of the drives had to be 54" between the two for Canada.. I had not heard of this. But my last trip to Canada was 1999. Something changed? US is usually 42".
    Thanks.

If you're spec'ing new equipment, there are wheelbase restrictions to keep in mind, in addition to axle spacing. Unless is an '05 and older and adheres to the Safe, Productive, Infrastructure-Friendly (SPIF) Program requirements, the wheelbase must be 244" or less.

Regarding axle spreads and weight distribution, here's a link to regulation section 413/05 of the Highway Traffic Act. Subsections 25 and on will be most helpful to you. It applies to Ontario, but unless you're hauling lift-axle b-trains and such, you'll be fine using the standard tandem-tandem calculation formula available. Good luck!

if you type into the search engine of your choice the abbreviation for the province you are inquiring about and then type in trucker specs, in most cases you will find links to the information you are looking for. Some are more detailed than others, but if nothing else it will give you gov't agencies from the particular province you need, keep in mind up here it is the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, or Ministry of Transportation and Highways, depending on the area you need info on.
