I cleaned up all the ignition wires and confirmed that the ignition relay is working and that didnt do it. So I moved to the ecm and found that one of the main power supply wires was chaffed and badly corroded so I repaired that and confirmed I am getting power at that connector is 2 places. I also confirmed that I am getting switched power at the vehicle interface harness at pin B3 with the key in run position. I also opened up the ecm and it looks new inside with no damage or burn marks.

After putting that stuff back together and cranking the engine, still no start. Since My dash is missing the info lights I manually wired the check engine and stop engine wires (pins B1& B2) to the cab. Interestingly these are showing ground at all times. They dont go off when I turn the key to run position or off position and they dont flash when I use the check codes button. Just a solid ground at all times, Im not sure what that means.

I dont believe the starter relay is a problem because the starter is working fine. Im able to get some starting with starter fluid but no run.

Are you sure you have fuel going to engine? I changed an injector and had to pressurize fuel tanks to Get the fuel flowing. Used a mini air compressor hooked to vent fitting and pinched off other vent tube. Only takes a little pressure less than 10 lbs.

I think I do but can’t be sure. The filters are full. The truck was running fine and then suddenly shut off. It didn’t stumble as if running out of fuel. I’m considering hooking up a fuel pressure gauge to verify.

But right now I’m leaning towards a ecm problem since the cel light is not operating properly.

QualityTruck has always been right seems.Curious what the tell tail sign was? The constant ground to dash lights? My next guess would have been timing sensors mentioned by boxcarkidd. Had that happen just died no codes. I’m trying to learn more here while maybe help out any

After playing around with my test light some more I discovered that the ecm is in fact working. Its weird, the check engine and stop engine lights show a light ground at all times, and then when the ecm turns on the grounds come on full and the test light lights up full. I was able to check codes and got a code 25 which is the one for no codes.

But it still wouldnt start. After some frustration I decided it was fuel priming which was preventing the start. During troubleshooting I pulled the filters to check their fullness. Repriming the system was not easy, I had to rig up some valves and a priming bulb at the tanks to pump fuel around.

After that I was able to start the engine. The shutoff situation was caused by corroded wiring at the ecm. It took 3 weeks of messing around with this thing, which could have been fixed in 15 minutes by replacing part of one wire. Oh well live and learn.

Not yet I keep hearing about how these should be replaced although currently it’s running ok. Do these get tested in some way or simply replaced?
