I realize you cant perform these steps yourself. Instead of pulling the trigger on the gear. Have all the hoses replaced and have them do a close inspection of the inside of the resevoir and fittings for debris. What do you have to lose? Still not convinced this is a gear problem since from your description its is still intermittent, correct? But, I've been wrong before and it's your truck. Just telling you what I would do if it were mine.

I will take your advice and have them check it all. It does seem like it performs much better when it's the beginning of a drive after all night of sitting with the engine off however there is still noticeable resistance. And heavier the load on the steer, the worse it is. So I will have them do everything else before the gear box and see the outcome.Goodysnap Thanks this.

I'm going to hold off on getting it done until i go home for christmas. I will ask around my diesel buddies in my hometown to see if there are any good shops there and leave my truck there for a week while I'm gone. Gonna knock out a bunch of stuff all at once. It's fine with a light load and most of my loads are light so I'm just going to tough it out. I don't think it's near any point of complete failure i just will have to take turns at like 3 mph instead of like 10 or however fast i take them. This way i don't rush any mechanics and don't feel like crap wasting time. I don't make enough to keep being down all the time.
