I have a Spicer 8041 auxiliary transmission in an old truck that I have.
I was wondering besides the weight of it, how good or bad that would be behind the transmission in an F-350.
I would rather have a 5831, but I don't know if I could find one or where to look.
It has a 6.9 Diesel with a close-ratio 4-speed. It needs a lower gear to pull out when pulling a heavy load and needs to be able to split the gears.
Are there any other alternatives?

Not sure if still in business, but used to be a two speed box underdive or overdrive box made by company called gear vendors. Buddy had one in a Chevrolet 3500 dually that worked pretty slick.

I do not recall the brand but I put an O/D unit in place of the tail housing on a Dodge with an auto.

Well, because it is a 4-speed close-ratio low gear is kind of high and high gear is one to one.
So really I need a lower low for pulling out and, I need to be able to split the gears, and then overdrive because high gear is one to one.
So I really need low direct and Overdrive.BoxCarKidd Thanks this. -
