Is anybody familiar with this program? There aren't any threads on the subject. Maybe you have a co-worker that's gone through it, or a friend of a friend?

The apprenticeship is 48 months. That's a long time to be in training status. Post 9/11 offers 36 months of benefits. Are you paying UPS for OJT....while they pay you driver wages? Hmmm...

Any help understanding this program would be greatly appreciated.

@Sho Nuff i did check out that link. I think you suggested it on another post I made. It generated more questions than it answered but I’ll look into contacting a local. Thanks for the advice!

The UPS registered apprenticeship program is run by the United States Department of Labor. Try calling them or email them to see if they can answer your questions...since they run it....

You might also try looking into Federal jobs...such as the DOL, VA, USPS, OIG, Miltary bases, Air traffic controller, etc. Vets get "Veterans Preference" for Federal jobs, which comes with excellent pay (the higher the job level, the higher the salary), benefits and retirement.

The UPS registered apprenticeship program is to become a package delivery driver...

And not a feeder driver. Don't know if that's what you're expecting or willing to do. You'll get the same pay progression as they do and you'll top out around $41 an hour in 4 years (that's when there new contract ever finalize). Not easy work though, considering some of the big ### packages they have to deliver in rain, sleet, snow, heat, traffic, double parked, dog attacks, etc. They have no A/C or DC outlets to plug into, have all kinds of sensors, and they communicate through their Diad Scanners. And it's not just delivering packages to customers, you'll also have to pickup a lot of packages and small freight as well from customers and businesses. Similar to what LTL P&D guys do, except on a smaller scale. Not an easy job though, but you'll make great money, excellent benefits and pension...and it's day work too. And you can eventually move up to Feeders...if that's your end goal.

But again, the apprenticeship program is run by DOL, and you'll be certified by them after completion of the program.

@Sho Nuff I had no idea it was for package delivery. Definitely not what I am looking to do, so that's a bummer but thanks again for the help!

Thanks for the info I’m just now reading this thread. I’m looking on tips how to get into this program. I just did 6 years in the military and I have all my endorsements and I drive for TMC and have 6 months experience. I’d like to be a package deliverer for UPS.
