I’ve been doing some research and can’t seem to find any conclusive answers to my question. I have a Kenworth with a Cummins n14 plus running into a Rockwell 9 speed (RMX 9 155B). Truck sits on tall 24.5s and has a 3.91 rear ratio. Right now it’s tuned to 525hp 1590 ft/lbs and just doesn’t hold in the hills. Is there any likleyhood of the 9 speed holding up with a 1850ft/lb tune? Obviously can’t be stomping on it at the pedal but I don’t usually drive heavy anyway.

My last truck had an 1850 rated trans and well over 2000 lbs of tq. It was not uncommon to gross over a 100,000. I run it for years that way with out issue.
I never put it to the floor on the low side of the trans when I was loaded. -
Have you thought about doing a 13 speed conversion on it also, if it's possible on that model. would help with holding the hills better.

I was told there is no difference internally between the 1850 & 2050 tq trans, the extra expense is for the warranty.
Check you clutch size, as that may be a limiting factor.062 Thanks this. -
It will hold up fine. Just don’t snatch gears.

I had my local shop check into converting it...they said it wasn’t possible on this model. Eventually I want to put a fuller 13 or 18 in it, it’s not in the budget right now though.

It will hold up mine is rated at 1650 and my engine is close or over 800 hp been like that since 2010 not a single problem.

For the most part that's true, but there is a slight difference in gear hardening on the gear sets between a RTLO 16xxx versus RTLO 18xxx versus RTLO 20xxx transmissions. That's about it really. Bearings and internals are all basically the same.
