    Friends,

I’m an owner operator based out of calgary. Can you recommend me companies to work for? I’m looking for Calgary to California runs only OR Calgary to Edmonton runs. I’ve been thinking of Bison but I don’t know. I might go over one of these days to see what they’re offering.

Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks!!

If you work for Bison you will be one truck out of hundreds. If you don't like how they manage your operations there are hundreds more trucks waiting to take your job from you.

Bison use to be good, but they micro mange you to no end with ZERO tolerance for ELD infractions. (Seen a truck 1/2 mile from Headingley Husky with four ways on shoulder parked. Said he was waiting for someone from the yard to drive him the half mile to truck stop)
I was at TST Overland out of Calgary running the four western provinces, they kept me moving really well. 12-13,000 miles a month. But I think they got rolled into Canadian Freightways.

If you go to Bison, you will be ####ing sorry....

    Here is why.

#1- Your CVIP and 3 months inspections must be done at their shops, at their prices, no exceptions.
#2- Their shop will install your ELD, and your truck will never be the same.
#3- You will be expected-forced to cover Walmart, Home Depot, Pier1, HBC and Canadian Tire loads, with unpaid driver assistance *IE you unload the ####ing trailer for free, by hand* even if you are on a US fleet.
#4-They Govern your truck to 64.5mph and monitor everything you do, including cruise control use.
#5- it’s takes 10-15 years of dick taking, before you will be on a dedicated US run.
#6- You will be told to get LCV qualified, and have your truck made LCV ready in their shop, for a cost of $3000 dollars, and maybe 2 3 turnpike loads a year.
#7- You will lose 1cpm if your truck is not white in colour, and has the bison installed O/O decal package.
#8- As was mentioned, the second you say no or use your right to decide, you will be starved out.
#9- You will sit in the yard, and watch outside contractors take your loads for less daily
#10- When you do quit, they will sent you a bill and lien your truck.

If you want dedicated Calgary to California tomorrow, go to TransX/CanXpress, they have some awesome rounders setup, all drop and hook pre loads, huge fuel discount, some #### trailers and ####### office ppl; but the dedicated stuff is ok. Also, you can use them to get Setup for LCV, and do Calgary to Edmonton once you’re tired of OTR.

Also look into Gilbert Trucking, NGE, and P&D out of Strathmore for Dedicated Calgary to California.

Thank you!! I’m new to this world of dedicated runs, but from an owner operator point of view, do dedicated runs pay less than those which are not?

That 100% comes down to the company, your dispatcher and how they plan. I know right now, doing Dry Van LTL, I would make less dedicated vs open board. However, at TransX I made more dedicated vs open board. Bison I made the most on Reefer US only open board.

That’s all doing the same 14 on 5 days off schedule. The best paying dedicated runs are Turnpike, Auto Parts and Caterpillar/Case IH/John Deere parts or Reefer (pre loaded, not live load). IMHO

@BigHossCummins Well, I ended up going to TransX yesterday. The recruiter gave me the whole rundown of how things are going to be etc. For o/o’s they’re paying $1.08 per mile and i think .7 safety bonus and there’s a sign up bonus too.

I think I already see myself being a part of this company by the next week or end of the month. I’ll check on the other people you mentioned but transx seems fairly legit. They pay every week so that’s going to be a big help for me and yard to yard deliveries is what will help me spend more time with my family. Let’s see...
