Mytee tarps

geez guys how do you expect us to haul cheap frieght if we have to buy are own tarps .... just a little help please

 

Brand new to flatbed and bought a 4 and 8 ft set from mytee.

They were great to learn with but I hate the tarps. Within 2 loads I had so many grommets pop out. If you know how to pad a load I would suggest better tarps like ones from tri city canvas. I regret the purchase greatly but I learned tarping so now I won’t destroy a new set.

 

I've got questions on the parachute tarps? I hate tarping with these heavy vinyl tarps and both have some holes but I'm considering trying to get some parachute tarps to replace them with. Will those hold up to a lumber load like the tarps I've got now?

 

You can get holes in any tarp. Sounds like you need time to improve your tarping methods. I have a set from MyTee that is 9 years old now. I've had grommets pull out of much more expensive tarps over the years, that is also due to how you tarp. Some things can't be avoided sometimes with odd sized loads. Padding helps but some people go way overboard padding every load, the whole trailer. Tarps are an expendable item, they wear out as do straps, and need occassional repair or replacement. Carry a grommet repair kit and patching material & glue.

 

Just my advice so take with a grain of salt.

I went to tri city tarps to buy a new trailer box and while there chatted with the guy about tarps. I asked about parachute tarps as well. He said that parachute tarps won’t last too long and are too hard to patch on the fly. He showed me the back room where they make tarps and I was able to handle and feel all the materials for myself. I took a sampling of the materials and pulled it hard over a sharp edge over the desk. I can definitely see how parachute material can rip.

However they have a nylon material tarp that has a vinyl/polyurethane similar material coating. It’s waterproof unlike parachute and to me felt more like a regular vinyl tarp but less stiff. You can also patch it like a vinyl tarp. It comes in 10 and 13oz. He said it’s more durable than 14oz vinyl. After playing around and talking to him I plan to have a 8ft and 4ft set made with 13oz top and 10oz sides. He said some people even get all 10oz and don’t have any problems vs 18oz vinyl.

I would just call or try to go there and see first hand over internet chatter.

 

They are ok- I have a set of Lumber tarps I bought from them.

D Rings don't last for ####- They all come from China- Everything over there.

I Prefer Deroche - Tarpstop is a Ripoff on their coverings and canvases......

 

I have used Mytee for other products and they do have great customer service.

 

You will like those light weight tarps. The black tarps are 24x40 and 24x36 10oz without flaps and they are about the same weight as a single piece of a three piece lumber tarps set. They are not super durable though and do need more padding. We tried to use them on an odd shaped load and the tarp split right in the middle, not at a seam. The load was fully wrapped in carpet but the way the load was shaped the wind was putting a lot of pressure on the tarp. Wrong tool for the job.

The green tarp is a 16x32 thats an 18 oz material. Very durable and well built.

D rings shouldn't be rusted out and grommets shouldn't pull out of a newer tarp. Thats just poor quality. Try city canvas uses stainless steel d rings btw.

 

They mentioned stainless steel d rings were an option, like $80 more since they are expensive.

I dig the red nylon webbing. Looks awesome. I wonder if a few months it will be stained brown/black lol.

For regular loadboard freight on a regular 48 flat, what would you suggest for tops and sides with 4 and 8 ft drop tarps using just their 10 and 13oz material?

I may delay ordering the tarps a couple weeks because I just bought another truck Saturday. It’s a sweet 1996 w900 and it’s in the shop making it pretty lol.
