There's a sign up at the trucker entrance at the Petro in Perrysburg, OH that only drivers are allowed, anyone else may be prosecuted.

I don't know what the answer is for hustling, it happens sporadically, and the last place it happened to me has alot of traffic now because Amazon deliveries stage their vehicles there, so it's still a bad place for a different reason.

I can't go anywhere without being accosted by panhandlers or someone trying to sell something. Doesn't matter the truck stop or the state.

I’ve have mixed feeling about this thread and most of its responses. I feel like we are all just one major life tragedy from being a “low life” ourselves to some degree.
Mental illness, depression, alcoholism and drug addiction are unfortunately crippling for many leading ultimately to loss of financial stability and I suppose personal dignity. I don’t like being taken advantage of or manipulated when approached by or when I feel compelled to help someone apparently in need. This has happened more than once. Then again, I don’t feel good when I simply turn my back and refuse to acknowledge those who are possibly genuinely suffering, even if it’s simply a word of kindness.
I would hope we could all approach these situations individually, make a thoughtful decision, and if the moment warrants, offer a little humanity.

I won’t give anyone money but will buy them a meal or gas. Most refuse that, just want cash so screw’em.

I feel that when the good lord puts someone in my path who is in need, and I can help them, then I should. It’s good for my soul to remember that but for the grace of god, that could be me. I don’t know what got them to that point, but I do know that you can’t rent a one bedroom apt on min wage anywhere. If it were me asking for help, I’d hope someone like me would help. All it takes is one bad accident for any of us to be out of a job and trying to make a living without our truck. If your wife was sick and needed your care, how would you support her? It’s not my place to judge them, it’s just my place to decide whether and how to help. How you treat the least of them is how you treat god.

Sure you can. Gov assistance will pay the rent, utilities, food, help with a vehicle , etc., as long as you're willing to work or at least look for it. Anyone can become homeless but you only stay that way by being unwilling to do anything to help yourself.

Saw a lady last summer out front of the Love’s at Boardman OR with a sign that said she was stranded and hungry, anything helps. I got fuel and parked for my 30, walked out front and said I’d buy her something to eat if she came inside and she goes “no thanks, I’d rather have cash”. So I turned around and walked away.

More companies have contracts for fuel at those places......and calling their drivers lowlifes is probably not called for.

Maybe true, but not called for.

Like said there is gov't assistance but some are too proud to apply. Even McDonald's seems to be paying $15.00 but most people do not want to flip hamburgers. I agree that I have offered dinner to a lot of Pan handlers but they want cash to either buy cigarettes or beer. They are not hungry just plain lazy and I have seen some of them get into better vehicles than I was driving. Let's face it that some are making a lot of money tax free. If they are not hungry then they need to leave everyone else alone because I will not buy them beer or smokes.
