How's it going guys? Back on here once again seeking helpful advice. A little background info, I'm leased to Landstar an got a 2012 Peterbilt 587. Old Werner truck. Hear me out, solid truck, solid engine, solid transmission. Only problem is it has all that emissions mess on it. I'm fed up with emmisions. I live in Tampa Florida and have already spoken with Peterbilt and Kenworth of Central Florida. $25,000 down can get me into something brand new. A bit skeptical about hopping into something else with all the emissions stuff on it. So if anyone has any experience of their own with the more up-to-date emissions stuff it would be greatly appreciated. If not, I have no issue taking $20,000 dollars and putting it down on a reasonable older truck and just hauling containers or live floor trailers. So put yourself in my shoes. You need $20,000, you love the company you're leased to currently and can make $20,000 easily at your own pace. Only problem is your truck. It needs constant repairs. Every time you save up 5 or $10,000, it has to be spent on another repair. So would you A) Terminate your lease with the company, sell the truck and go drive someone else's truck to save up $20,000? or B) keep the truck, continue making repairs and as slow as a lazy snail eventually save up $20,000?

I have a 2018 680 Cummins X15 450 with 115k on it. Hasn’t saw anything but oil changes and greasing. Just got a 2019 but only has 4k on it. Time will tell.
Edit: If you buy new get the X15 and with 5 yr 500k extended warranty with towing. $5500 investment that will pay for itself at the very least. Covers emissions.727Guy Thanks this. -
Assuming it’s ISX? If so Rawze and Milk Money is something you should google.

Emission problems can be really devastating financially.
Some solve the problem the same way Alexander the Great solved the Gordian knot...

No personal experience driving one.....but the guys I know with the new X15 Cummins are all way happier with them than they were with earlier emission versions of the ISX. I also have a friend that just got a new 389 PETE with the Paccar engine in it and he’s happier with it than he was with the Paccar he got 3 years ago.

If your gonna buy something brand new or newer get a glider... Only way your gonna get around emissions is a 2007 or older... or a Glider kit... I had an emissions truck and I ran into the same problems you did.. Only problem with Landstar Your motor would have to be year 2000 to be able to run their logs if you chose a Glider kit..Last edited: Dec 6, 2018

For less than what you have spent in repairs it could have been solved permanently. If the running gear is in fact in good shape I’d just “fix” it and keep what you already have.

How do you permanentl resolve emissions-related issues? Aside from normal wear, tear and routine maintenance, 90% of this trucks issues are emissions-related. 665,044 current miles.

For 3500-to 5000 you can get rid of the crap giving you issues. Spend a little it might go along way . Google is your friend if the rest of the truck is still good than it seems like a viable option.
