Nothing beats an analyzer for real-time information.
-
If a breathalyzer tests breath I don’t want see what a analyzer tests

You need something like this in your truck to make certain your swr’s are good, or else KaBOOM!!! -
A cross needle tells more. That’s all, Craig.

The video might be eye-opening to the neophyte who thinks that achieving the absolute lowest SWR is important enough to spend hours tweaking things, sometimes to the ruination of their excessively shortened antenna.
SWRs is like grenades. Close is good enough. IMHO, anything around 1:1.5 is a healthy passing grade. Even anything below 2.0 earns a "Gentleman C" and a diploma, especially on mobile units that travel on Hell's Highways every day; unless there's an amplifier involved, in which case values of 1.5-and-below become necessary due to the high wattage loads on everything. -
how's that?
it is just an indicator that is easier to read.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
thank you guys.

MFJ-818 a good example.
3”x5”2”. $79.95. DX Engineering has it. Add one of their RG8X jumpers at 1.5’ or 2.0’. $16.95. Add 12V for lamp.
Velcro Mount where it can be seen.
Can’t see the meter on most radios. Especially at night.
And why bother with truckstop equipment? Don’t want it, fine.
I find it easier to understand adjustments. And “see” what moving down the road does to the antenna. Check connections. Etc.
I’ve changed trucks plenty of times the past ten years. A good meter makes sense.
