So here's my question, I have a class B CDL here in Missouri but will be going to class A driving school next month. Do I need a class A permit or just the combination vehicles test?

Not to much difference between class A &B.
    Class A 2601and above class B 2600And below
I'm here in Utah and I have all the bells and whistles on my driver's license and from my understanding a Class A you could haul 26000 pounds and above a Class B is below 26000. When taking your test make sure you take general knowledge air brakes and Toad unit. And then if you want an additional charges you can take other certifications or add-ons to your driver's license for example tankers and I are building a doubles triples you do not have to road test on tankers or doubles and triples. I wouldn't waste my time or money getting Hazmat you choose the endorsements you want if you choose to do school bus than you'll have to take a driving test I'm not sure if these are that questions or answer you wanted but I am a certified driver trainer. I just got done with my pilot class certification and I'm not seeing a whole lot of difference between a Class A and it be other than weight restrictions on what you can drive. I've been driving for 27 years and I've always just carried a Class A. Both of my boys have Class B's and they can drive pretty much anything they want but they also work for Freightliner so they're Bob Dylan most of the time

Sorry @Dirt nap Hunting but you are wrong.
A and B are both 26,001 GCVWR or higher. A is required if a trailer is hauled and is 10,001 or greater.
As for the ops question I don't know, but would advise calling the sos/dmv Monday to find out.

You need air brake, combination vehicle. Permit prior to (Schooling) and especially a MANUAL TRACTOR TRAILER. Not just a AUTO. You will need general knowledge. I might have forgotten a few other things, but for you at that basic level of A you don't need much jewelery on your license just yet.

If you TEST in a AUTO with the DMV state, you WILL be stamped restricted auto only and cannot be hired for manual trucks.

I took the air brake and general knowledge in order to get my class B permit, is there another general knowledge test I need to take again?

    WRONG!

Class A is any Vehicle OVER 26,001rated weight that can pull a trailer over the other class limitations.
Class B is any Straight vehicle with a rated weight OVER 26,000 but with a trailer restriction.
Any vehicle NOT a bus or placarded for hazmat with a rated weight UNDER 26,001 is NOT a CDL vehicle!

The OP will need to check with their state DMV to see what they will have to do. At a minimum the OP will have to take the combo vehicle test.

    Dan.S and ZVar Thank this.

You don't, that's good. But you still need a Combination Class A vehicle with a Manual transmission. That does not change. Otherwise you will be given a restriction against manuals on your A which will potentially discard any Class B trucks work.

The OP needs to understand some states are easier then others when it comes to doing this. Some might want the entire test series done all over again. Other states might just want the combo test. There are some states I understand that just to move your CDL to their state you have to test. I can't stress this enough. GO SEE THE DMV!
