I'm capable of most repairs, rebuilt car engines, transmissions, etc so I know my way around a wrench. The plan is to run local with the occasional overnight or 2 run.
I do figure I'll end up spending a decent chunk at some point with an older truck. I'm in the school of thought that buy what I want the first time and keep it vs buying something to get me started and then sell it later and buy what I want. Part of this is the fact that used pre eld pre egr trucks aren't getting any cheaper.

You know better by now Shooter...
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FUN!!! -
I've had both Detroits and Cats. The Detroits do a little better on fuel and cheaper on repairs. Problem is, they need repairing more often. The cats, nearly never. For me, less downtime is more favorable than cheaper repairs.
The KW will have a tighter cab. Depends on who will be driving it, you or someone else. Given those two to choose from, I'd buy the International any day. But I'd probably keep looking and find a KW or Pete with cat power and at least a 13 spd. -
If you have the option to shut down and work on it once in awhile I would sure go about it with a used truck that is more shade tree mechanic friendly, and not requiring a laptop to diagnose everything. E model or series 60 still need to be plugged in occasionally, but not like newer ones.

I'm 6'8 so more I look at the kw the tighter fit it looks to be. May hold out and try to find a mid roof big hole truck and go with the international for now.
Yes option to shut down is there plus dont plan to run weekends unless it pays well enough to be out.Last edited: Dec 8, 2018

I'm coming home today sitting in a left hand turn lane and this guy is coming at me on his outside Lane and almost clips me with the blade of the dozer which is sticking out at least a foot maybe two from the sides. He doesn't have a flag or banner one on his truck or the dozer. He turned into a construction site that is outside of my neighborhood so I turned around to recheck that I didn't miss something and maybe he did have his oversized stuff on there. Well when I get turned around to pull into the parking lot to look I couldn't believe he actually pulled into the construction site because it's been raining and it's muddy and now he's high-centered and stuck and from what I could see there's nobody in there working so he may be up a creek for a day or two since this is Saturday.
