I worked for a man who ran nothing but 425 ataac B and C models from 1985 through to 2000. He had as few as 5 and as many as 17, ran them all to 1,400,000 miles with a rolled in set of main bearings at 250,000, 500,000 and 750,000 and then a scheduled in-frame at 900,000 then two more bearing roll-ins before trading them in.
I worked as a company driver from '89 to '94 and a leased-op from '98 to 2010. His Canadian trucks all pulled super-b at b 140,000lbs and mountain driving up to 10% grades and he had 3 company units running the US starting in '97.
In all the years I was with him he never lost a crank in a B model.
I believe that his strict maintenance schedule is why.

Those old trucks are bringing a hefty price for sure. Makes me wish I had stockpiled a few a couple of years ago...

Back before I could even drive I would look at the usual rags and see trucks going so cheap and now where I'm at trying to buy one and they are so much more it's insane.

My guess is by summer or fall at the latest prices will be dropping. People are already complaining about low rates.
