1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

"Granted, I leave the house at 4am, drive 50 miles to where I work, hop in my Pete, drive it another 40-60 miles to the rock crusher, and then start making runs to road construction all day until around 4-5pm, drive it back to the yard, and then have to drive the 50 miles home again hahahahaha, that's a crap load of driving but my average day makes me 250 bucks, some more, some less but the majority is 250, it's worth it to me to commute that far and basically have 0 life monday through friday to not have to put up with some moronic dispatcher who has never seen a steering wheel tell me why I am not making any money living in a 72" box waiting on loads for 2-3 days at a time."

so basically, slodsoms, you leave home at 4AM and get back home about 7PM??? my hat's off to you, good sir! you have a LOT more energy than I!! so you basically get up, go to work. come home, go to bed. and repeat. so just like OTR, you still have NO life? that's one of the reasons I've never really pursued local driving - work 5 times as hard as OTR for the same money. (I know you said $250 a day - I just ain't never seen those kind of wages in local trucking.) so then, you're willing to give up your life to make a certain amount of money? sad.

It sounds like you'd be better off not driving trucks for a living, and there's no sense in you being a dick on here just because I don't see you as a victim. Nobody's forcing you to drive a truck. Find somewhere else to cry about it.

You don't like the industry, get out of it. It really is that simple. The stuff you're complaining about is the nature of the industry. Yeah, the industry sucks right now, no big revelation there. Name me one that doesn't, and then go into that one. Miles suck right now, really bad. Is that the fault of trucking companies? You think they don't want their trucks turning more miles? What are they supposed to do, pay you for doing nothing? I'm sure they'd stay in business a long time that way.

Anyway, I originally replied to you because I thought you had a legitimate point to make. I didn't realize you were just one of those guys who spends all day on the cb radio complaining because you can't have your way.

whatevur Jethro. I reckun over yander in kentucky, $8/hour is a lot of muney. ifn' you live in a trailer. it doesn't just suck right now. that wasn't the point. but again, you have to have a little bit of intelligience to read a post and understand the point that is being made. and if you'll read other posts on here, from people who have been driving a truck for more than a whopping 3 years, you'll realize that wages in this industry are about the same as they were in the 70s - not adjusted for inflation, but real wages. ahhhh shucks, I thawt you ment fake wages???

well yeeeee doggies! I shore didn't meen to do that, Cletus! didn't mean to offend anyone by pointing out that they're in an industry where they make about the same as the greeter at wall mart. I certainly do apologize for my boundary over-stepping.

Well, I figure you can heed the advice of a regular ol' member of the forums or you could let a mod handle it, since you are being insulting, first to the other poster and now to me.
    Up to you.

yikes! I sure don't remember insulting anyone. although the truth often times can be insulting to folks. I can't help that. I'm just trying to get people to see what they're really doing out there, and what they're being paid to do it (or NOT being paid in some cases - like where a company expects you to hand unload a 53' trailer full of furniture for $0.00) and some folks sure enough get seriously pissed when you point out to them how little $$$ they're willing to give up their life for.

so now you have me skeered to death that I'm going to be fussed at by a "mod" for pointing out reality. ooooooooooooh lord help me jesus! I'm going to go hide in my bedroom closet now and curl up in the fetal position and rock back and forth.

I was talking about the namecalling. Not too worried about your truth as I've been in the trucking biz a couple weeks, or so. Just trying to keep you from getting a vacation, but, suit yerself.:biggrin_25525:

Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it's not there. Last week I worked 6 days, slept in my own bed every night, and never heard a qualcomm go off.

    Monday $250
    Tuesday $300
    Wednesday $300
    Thursday $300
    Friday $175
    Saturday $250

You do the math, I didn't make that kinda money OTR, I made that kinda money when I was in the Marine Corps AND worked a second job at night building motors for dragsters which netted me 6am to midnight 5 days a week and 11am to 4pm on Saturdays.

I am a lot of things but afraid to work ain't one of them. It's rock hauling man, when the work is there, there is tons of it and they pay accordingly because when it dies, it's dead for a while and you have to wait it out. This is a one man owned company, 3 trucks, 3 employees, and we are all paid 25% of the load. If it's good pay for him, it's good for us, if it's crappy pay for him, it's crappy for us as well. Right now we are on an 80 mile stretch of state funded shoulder rebuild that will carry us for 12 weeks or so with hours/pay like this. When it is done, if we don't get another contract like that it's back to oil field pad construction, shorter hours by far but also more like 800-1000 per week.

I will take the long hours for plenty of money when it's there, it's called drive, some of us want to ensure our kids get a better life than we did and we will bust our ##### to do it. If that means working a lot of hours 5 days a week then so be it. I can handle it :biggrin_2555:
