New to the forums, thought i would introduce myself and say thanks to all the staff and all the members before me for this great resource of knowledge! New student here, 2 weeks into a 6 week school and im loving it. Only been out bobtailing twice so far, never drover a manual trans before and im already doubling down, and shifting is getting smoother. Coming from a construction background, been installing flooring full time for 15+ years fulltime and then some. Been looking for a change of career and my cousin who drives told me i could get a job making good money if i got my cdl, so here I am.

Dan.S, Puppage and Kyle G. Thank this.

Thanks. Its a matter of perspective for me. I have been crawling around on my knees for over a decade in peoples dirty houses, no real health insurance, nothing for overtime, not getting paid for months sometimes, redoing jobs for no pay that other installer screwed up, paying out of pocket for tools and vehicles and fuel and upkeep, tools coming up missing, the list of cons go on and on and on. I know that trucking comes with its own issues but at least I will get paid and have some health insurance and wont pony up a week or two worth of pay when a vehicle breaks down.
I am looking at Holland, CPC logistics, AR logistics, Fedex, TMC, and McElroy. Have had lots of recruiters already in just 2 weeks of class. Boyd, maverick, schneider, werner, mcelroy.

Just passing by, Dan.S and Kyle G. Thank this.

If you are interested in dry van, get a year in somewhere and then check out Cox Transfer out of Eureka Ill. You are right in their hiring area and they are a darn good company to work for.

You have a good plan. Time for a change before having serious health problems.
If you're a military veteran, www.usaa.com has health, dental, vision insurance.
We'll try and give you some options on trucking companies that are decent, in addition to the ones you're looking at now. Get all the endorsements before graduation from school because that gives you more options of companies to choose from.
PI&I Motor Express - Teamsters Union and hires new cdl grads. Health insurance is cheap compared to non-union companies. This company hauls steel.

Britton Transport - has an excellent reputation. Health insurance is free for the driver, plus you can take a pet and family with you and there's no fee; the company pays the fee.
