You listed Holland and that would be a good choice for a family man.
Click here to apply > Apply On Company Site
    Full- time driver benefits include:
    • Company paid Health Insurance
    • Vacation, Holiday and Sick pay

If you have your Class A CDL, but may not have the experience and/or the required endorsements to be a Holland driver then you may be interested in our Driver Training Program offered at our Rockford, IL terminal. The Driver Training Program allows you to work on the dock while you get your Hazmat/Tanker endorsements or work with a driver mentor to gain the skills necessary to become a full time driver with Holland. We have both Local and Regionals positions available. Local drivers are home daily and Regional drivers are home every week.

This is a great opportunity that offers great pay and benefits for drivers who recently graduated from driving school, who may not have experience driving our type of equipment, who may not have driven recently, or are missing either their Hazmat and/or Tanker endorsements.

If you're interested in dry van Westside Transport is out of Cedar Rapids and has a terminal in Glenwood. Guaranteed pay if you don't get miles. I'm just like you was in the trades 25yrs and needed a change. Good company. PM if you have any questions.

Thanks for the replys and some prospective companies to look at in my area, gives me something to do during my hour lunch break at school. I should have added I have a wife and a 15 month old, and the goal is to eventually be home everyday but i realize I may need to be OTR for a year or two to get the experience for one of the better local driving jobs. Out 5 home 2 regional work is about the most away I can do, i realize some of these home weekends are just a 34 hour reset and back out, but i can grind a couple years if need be. Im glad you liked Holland, I may have a foot in the door already with who i know, but i will still be putting in several other applications just in case.

Tell your classmates about these choices, before they hear the sales pitch about how wonderful a Dollar General Account is with some other companies. Those Dollar General Accounts are a fast way to derail a new trucking career quickly.

The company i mentioned earlier, is legit weekends off. Saturday and sunday. But i imagine there will be plenty of home daily opportunities in your area after you get that year in, if not right away. Good luck!

Ah, the positive actions of a new recruit, before the weight of trucking crushes that fragile spirit. Reminds me of me in the late 70's.When coming from a different job background, trucking can look mighty promising, but be advised, all those things you mentioned could come back to haunt you, crummy ins. no overtime, finger print( hand unload) a load, possibly for nothing, and you just might have made more hanging drywall, and you could go home at night. There are tons of companies, and you came to the right place, but as a warning, many are unprepared for what trucking lies ahead, and 35% of new drivers quit within the 1st 90 days. Best of luck and many here can give great advice on a company, but they all require dedication, and that may wane a bit as you sit in a forsaken truck stop in Nebraska on New Years Eve.

Hehe, my spirits already been crushed, built back up and ready to crush it again. Drywall is a cake walk, unless you are hanging 12' 5/8" fire rated, compared to 200-300# rolls of carpet or sheet vinyl, and those tile formats arent getting any smaller. And I already get to unload trucks twice a week for free at my current job. Man i feel like im complaining, I sure am grateful I had that job though vs. not working, but I need a change and a chance to retire one day. I appreciate your insite.
