Hi all!
I wrote an article on eHow - How to share the road safely with semi trucks,
and I thought this might be a good place to share it. It might clear up why we do some of the things we do, and help make the roads a little safer.

I'd also appreciate any feedback ya'll have to offer - did I miss anything? I mostly just put in the the stuff I see out here every day and how to avoid it.

I read it, i thought it was pretty good. Just wish other 4 wheelers would keep that in mind

article sounds good. good advice for 4-wheelers. just wish they would read it and realize that some of the stuff they do really puts us a drivers in a no win situation.

Good article. I signed up at that place and got their confirmation email, but every time I try to sign in it takes me right back to the sign-up page. I finally emailed then about it. Strange.

Awesome article! Like many of the other drivers that have responded in the thread, I wish more 4-wheelers would do those things. WHen I was in truck driver training, I had several 4-wheelers pass me on the right and speed on around me as I was making a left or right hand turn. It's EXTREMELY FRUSTRAING as a professional, but asa student, it's just plain scary. Oh well. Maybe you could get your article published and distributed all the DMV's in the USA.

Jinx that is a very well written article, I was fortunate to have grown up in a small town where truck drivers were literally everywhere. We were actually taught drivers ed at school by a former truck driver and he emphasized all of these points. I just wish more 4 wheelers would read and understand the danger they put themselves and us in.

I to wish fourwheelers would realize what they do sometimes makes us drivers frustrated, and puts them in a very bad position. Like this guy today on I-20 in Alabama. Im tooling along at 65 and this f150 comes up on me probably going 70, then he gets right on my rear and continues this for about 50 miles. After several attempts of trying to get him to go around me, like slowing down to 60, tapping my brake lights, going over onto the right shoulder, to putting my blinker on right then left. Finally after I got on the radio and me slowing down to 55 he got around me then rode someone elses butt for a while. I just dont understand this why tailgate a truck that long when you were going faster when you approached me???

I want a bumper sticker that saids,
STAY OUT OF MY BLIND SPOTS, This trucker just doesnt care.
Problem would be the lawyers out there. -
A couple of things here at lewast as far as CA. 1 it is actually illegal for a truck to change lanes to allow another vehicle to enter the freeway. CHP's viewpoint is that it is there responsilility of the vehicle entering the freeway to adjust its speed and merge. They actually right tickets for under "unnecessary lane change". 2 It is now a law in CA for vechiles to move into the left lane when approaching CHP. Caltrans, towtrucks, or people working on the side of the freeway, We move to the left almost always a 4 wheeler will drop into the right lane, give us the salute and pass us next to the emergency vehicle on the shoulder. CA is different than most other state and it is written to say must move to the left if safe to do so. But going to the right is certainly out of the question.
