Transfer pump is the technical name. It is not an actual pump. If I had to explain it in its most basic form, I would say it’s like a one way check valve. It lets fuel pass through it, but then closes off the line so that it can not return to the tank when there is no pressure. I’m not familiar with your motor, so other guys on here could probably give you a location on it, but every truck has this somewhere. Cat 3406b is on back of fuel pump.
New Fuel Pump. Cranks won't start.

Going off the schematic version 7, there’s a primer module that could cause issue. Something needs to hold pressure in the line when the engine is shut down. Low pressure side or high side it needs to hold fuel in the line between the tank and the motor. Otherwise every time you turn the key the truck is cranking and cranking trying to pull fuel up from the tank. Which is what it sounds like in this case. But again, I’m not familiar with any DD motors. Normally if Ether fixes your fuel problem then the truck isn’t holding prime. Old school way of looking at it, but I’m sure there’s a more sophisticated way of diagnosing these issues now. I’m sure they cost more too.

On DD15 is a huge issue. don’t use starting fluid. DD15 even have a huge sticker you can’t use that fluid! The issue is lubrications in your fuel pump.
1. Get magnet with rope and put it in to your tank. Look at it if it’s any metal parts already in your fuel. If it is and you have no davco external fuel filter you in huge ####. If you have you just saved your truck.
So fuel pump get lubricated from fuel. But this fuuucckkeerrssss don’t add additional lubrication to fuel. Special on biodiesel. Biodiesel dry out your whole engine! It’s a huge problem Detroit already have big lawsuit about that. So. Few thinks you can do.
Stop using starting fluid !!! Check out your fuel about metal parts. Do oil analysis... if everything is ok you need to fill up your tank w regular diesel. Not from crap truck stops! ... and add for 100 galllons 1gallon 2 stroke oil and 1 gallon ATF. Than turn it on and and run it on 1100 rpm for like 5 min. Than shut it off. Wait like 5-10 min and than start again. with out starting fluid. Don’t use start with starting fluids. It’s ahuge NO!HopeOverMope Thanks this. -

Hey everyone, just wanted to follow up on this thread in case someone might have a similar problem. I had the fuel filter housing/module replaced with a 3 to 2 conversion kit, as the 3 filter system for the DD15 is now obsolete. It took care of the problem. My truck starts up now normally.
