What is your work schedule like?

I run OTR... 5 to 8 day runs and reset at home. Loading and unloading days I MIGHT use all of my 14, but not generally. I drive as much of my 11 as I can, most days I run down to within 10 minutes of that 11 hr mark. If I can make it work I prefer to run at night sleep in the day... It makes parking a non issue, and I can gain almost half a day by doing it this way. If I'm not get 650 plus miles a day, I had #### well better have been loading & unloading, or delayed my very bad weather.

I probably average 3600 to 3800 miles a week... Last week I left IdahoFalls, ID Tuesday afternoon and loaded 22 miles from yard. Early Friday morning I unloaded at first stop in Indianapolis, IN by 10 a.m. central was unloading in Madison, IN. Drop and hook early Friday afternoon in Frankfort, KY. Early Monday morning unloaded in Helena, MT. Deadheaded back to IdahoFalls. By 2 p.m. Monday I was in my lazy-boy enjoying a cold one... 3965 paid miles, or about 4000 actual miles. I go back out in the morning,

 

As long as my break is complete, I start if I’m up. Otherwise my schedule is all over the place. I do a lot of open appointment drop and hooks. So I don’t really plan too much.

Currently on a reset, with 5am set as my rollout time. Will most likely pull out between 3 and 4 to beat city traffic. And be done by noon tomorrow.

 

Jesus! I haven’t seen that many miles in a week, for years!! Not complaining or belittling your effort. I just don’t meet as many people that run that hard these days. Old school effort is slowly fading away it seems.

 

Lol... Thanks I just figured it up and over the last year I I have averaged 13,333 miles a month for the 7.5 months that I drove. I took a few months off from trucking and did a 7 to 5 job around the time my wife gave birth, and I just came off of a month of medical leave for a pretty bad injury. I like to run hard, then enjoy a day or 3 at home with the family. And the small company I drive for makes it happen, when I want it to happen.

 

Aaaa That explains it. You’re still young I ran hard in my younger years as a company driver. But I’ve slowed down as the pay increases came.

You’ll do the same eventually. Kids will want your time. Major bills will no longer be an issue. And you can just coast when the mood strikes you.

 

As of now, my schedule is 1500-0130-0200ish Monday night to Saturday morning. I'm home every night/day unless my truck breaks down and we can't get a repair man out to fix it before my 14 runs dry. I run 640 miles a night. Same road, same meet place, same meet partner. I thought I would hate it at first but after 6 months, it's really grown on me.

 

Dedicated run, OTR, usually terminal to terminal D/H.
Leave with a dry van around 6 pm on a Wednesday, take it about 600 miles a day for 3 days to destination, pick up next trailer after a 12 hr break, take that 600 miles a day for 3 days to get back home about 4 am on a Tuesday. Then I need a 34 (closer to 38) hr. break. Repeat from the top. Until July. Then take 3-4 months off.
When I ran regular OTR I stayed out 10-12 weeks at a time. Now I use up most of my 70 in 6 days so I need a 34 every week. I consider it wasted time for the most part but it does get me started on the next run at the same time (the optimal time to get favorable traffic conditions over the next 6 days) every week. I always drove at night if I could and I do that almost exclusively now...I very rarely deviate from the above schedule.
