Yes, much of what you posted above is true and accurate. I know many drivers myself included, that are more than qualified, but I will not be "on call", work a crap schedule, work for subpar wages for 5 years, and hopefully pray to get a decent run after being crapped on for 10+ years. More than likely this old way of thinking my shat don't stank, every new guy hired (regardless if already has 15+ years spotless driving record) is treated like a rookie, wages wise and such doesn't appeal to folks. This is more than likely why they are having trouble finding "qualified new drivers"

As for the "Old Farts" still driving because they love it so much, more power to them. But, honestly its about the money. Do you think they are loving it so much they would still be there driving for free, or basically free at the starting wage?

This is what they call seniority. If you don’t want a seniority based job nobody will make you take one. Union or non union seniority works the same. Those with high seniority pick before those with low seniority. Some locations with seniority use a first in first out approach for oncall and this tends to be more fair to a brand new guy. As far as the shat don’t stank comment, I don’t know anyone at any company that would think a brand new man should hire in and get the work that has been being done by someone who has been there for years.

To a certain extent I agree. For example, my problem lies with a 23 year old that that has been with said company for 18 months multiple minor incidents having seniority over veteran driver spotless record of nearly as long as 23 year old had been on this earth

You can always do like I did when you don’t like something. Quit and go find something better.

My boses boss did tell him to tell me “he can’t quit, nobody quits UPS we either fire them or they retire but nobody quits”. My boss told him “you don’t know this guy”. What an understatement that was.
I feel your pain, but I don’t agree with you. Doesn’t mean I can’t like and talk to you. It just means I don’t agree with you.
On your “#### you I’m getting mine” statement. #### you I worked for mine and if you want some of it work for it yourself. I am partially joking and partially serious, you will need to figure that out yourself. Anyway let’s not beat this dead horse any more. Ups is a great job, but there is a #### good life outside of Big Brown.

People stay here for long periods of time for many different reasons. Some for the money, others due to poor financial decisions, others to put the kids through college, and some are afraid to leave and think they will die in 36 months after retirement. Either way the decision to stay is their right and their decision.

I've seen few young drivers around my age during the day, but they are probably cover drivers.

I applied in the past when I got my cdl for feeder position, but it was as a cover driver. Those guys only work when full time drivers are off or on vacation?

My location does not hire cover drivers, so I'm honestly just not sure what they do.

A cover driver at my location is someone who is higher up in seniority, but can't get a bid yet, so they cover a doffdiffe bid every week.

Oh, there is also a coverage bid, for those guys who like a little variety week-to-week.

It's probably being on call... in the email the lady from HR told me that I would need to be available to work days and nights plus weekends as well. Do they ever hire for full time permament feeder position or it's mostly seasonal?
