Too many times I see truckers that were in the emergency lane, pull straight out to the right lane in front of fast moving traffic. Its an accident waiting to happen.

    The proper technique:
The regular interstate lanes are twelve feet wide. The emergency lane is nine to ten feet wide. The track of your tires are eight feet wide. Plenty of room to travel in the emergency lane. When you are ready to get back on the interstate (leave your four-way flashers on), move forward on the emergency lane and stay on it until your speed is at least forty miles per hour, before merging back into traffic (just like you are changing lanes normally).

The same goes for getting onto the emergency lane. Merge at high speed to this lane and then slow down to a stop.

I like to jump right out into traffic the minute my roadside 30 minute break is done. I’ll catch up to freeway speed later..

The proper technique would be not to pull over in the emergency lane, but get off on an exit and then return it to the freeway on the entrance ramp.

That lane gets people killed when they pull straight out into the front of me and my 18 wheeler. So far I ain't killed them just yet. missed them by this much with earful of profanity and horn.It is absolutely possible to kill someone being stupid and botch a EL Pullout. Its enough to get themselves killed. Did I say that word alot? There are times you have no place to put a big truck. And that car with you in it will just have to take the hit. Because you screwed it up royally.

STAY OFF THE SHOULDER to begin with unless you're broken down.
If you are.. put out your triangles.

It's not for taking a leak, or checking Qualcomm messages.. or making bologna sammiches.

    It's a good thing I'm not a trooper.
