Anyone else heard of these new chain laws in British Columbia? Only steel chains now, absolutley nothing else, no auto chains, nothing.

They rolled it out at the end of November and apparently didn't tell anyone. They did a study showing most of the incidents they closed the CoQ were caused by improperly installed chains or guys not throwing traction devices at all, and they decided the only course of action was to outlaw everything but chains, and increase the fines for not throwing them.

I think it's a load or crap. Just punishing everyone for a select few who ignore the laws.

Why is it a load of crap? It's important to have chains and use them when the time is right. Don't like it? Don't go to BC.

Load of crap? How many times has it been shut down over the past two winters? Excluding this winter.

This is another tool in law enforcements toolbox to rid the roads of idiots. More power to them.

Everything about this is good, except they banned autosocks!!! I mean ####! BC Transport approved Auto socks, heck even promoted them! now they ban them? That's the only BS part. Just did Donners Pass 2 weeks ago during the snowstorm, with my 6 socks on no problem, Caltrans had no issue. Did multiple trips up and down the Coq with 6 socks on, never slipped once. Oh well.

It's a load of crap cause guy's spent money installing all these approved alternatives (auto-chains), auto socks which is what I carry due to back problems and having difficulty throwing doubles. For BC to approve all these when the chain laws came into effect and suddenly outlaw them after the season started is crap.

Do you have any idea how expensive auto chains are? And now it's just extra added weight to a truck that they cannot use, and you can't deny the issue is ####### don't use traction devices and spin out. Or drive too fast and can't use what they have.

I have approved* alternatives and used them without issue, instead of 2 chains I have to use 4 socks but it takes me 5 min on and 5 min off, and they work just as well. That's why it's a load of crap. Now I have to go buy 4 singles, a hanger, and have them installed just to never throw them cause or nerve problems in my lower back. I've been running Calgary-Vancouver for over 5 years and never had to throw chains, and never once lost control of my rig. I started driving 6 years ago. So what's that tell you? All these wrecks aren't and issue of the 'laws' it's lack of enforcement.

    Do WA and OR approve?

I’ve thought about grabbing a set for parking lots and east coast areas. But never really considered they for use in the western regions.

It's not a load of crap, it's about time the chain laws are actually enforced, and everybody should know how to install them. And now there is a safe place at Box Canyon to put them on, maybe spun-out trucks won't be so common. All they need is a booth at the chain-up exit for a chain checker to man, and spin-outs should be a thing of the past.

Okay I want you to take a deep breath and read very carefully Sirius what's crap is that they outlawed all the other alternatives, after companies installed them all. I'm glad the regulations are getting stricter and I agree with you there should be someone checking to make sure that people have the proper amount of chains on but that doesn't mean they should have any right to Outlaw all the previously legal Alternatives after the season has started. Now take another deep breath and read that again slowly and understand that I am agreeing with your point of better enforcement I am disagreeing with how they outlawed the Alternatives that's a load of crap. You still following me sweetheart?
