Your injury will probably be an issue with the medical exam. You need to be very up front with your recruiter about this, and your employment gaps. Find out what kind of documentation will be required before you come to orientation. Quite a few people will be sent home after the first day simply because of this sort of thing - you don't want to be in that group.

I just want to make clear that the injury will probably not keep you from working at Prime if you can pass the physical... but the documentation and medical clearance of previous conditions can "trip" you up.

There were a handfull of guys in my class that got sent home to get the various paperwork and medical clearances for their physicals.

Try to have all the paperwork in hand, save you a bus ride home and back to Prime... also pushes back your training.

Also... have the your doctor's phone number handy, just in case Prime's doctor or nuse needs a follow up question... doesnt hurt.

Yup... U2 is right. As long as you have the full range of motion the DOT exam calls for, no worries. What I was getting at is that Prime will want full documentation of your injury and recovery so that they don't get stuck for it down the road... get your ducks in a row before you come to orientation, and do like U2 says!

All I can suggest is get with your recruiter and find out what kind of documentation/clearance you need. I highly doubt the injury will prevent you from being hired... Im very confident you will be hired.

However, I strongly believe that if you dont have the paperwork, you will be sent home for either paperwork, or a medical clearance from your doctor. Then Prime will allow you to comeback.

Even if it was 8 years ago, the medical questions will have simple yes and no answers (ie. Have you ever had any surgeries, if so explain...) Prime's doctor will examin you and discuss your answers to the medical history.

I had multiple injuries from a fall several years ago. I had a wrist reconstructed as well as an ankle. I was up front and told my recruiter and their doctor about it.

You need to be up front and honest about everything!!

I brought all of my medical records with me and they didn't even look at them.

I'm not saying don't bring your records, because you should.

I'm just saying you may be fine and not to worry.

U2exit Is right on. I have been with Prime almost 2 years and started as he did. I had military exp driving the army trucks but nothing compared to driving these big trucks. Just lots of experience with the different trailers and equipment.

I am a current Trainer and just recently started Instructing. I prefer training, I hate sitting still. My last 2 students made me take a vacation so I am on a Solo driver vacation. It is different. Running Team for almost 2 yrs and now solo in a truck by myself is different. Now with the economy being so slow with frieght i am having more time sitting. Then get an overnighter or a fast run somewhere.

I am a lease driver, and yes this economic crissis we are in hurts. Last year I made almost $250K then after expenses i brought home about $75K This year i hope to hang in there.

U2Exit nice job on informing the new guys out there. I wish this info was out there when i started 2.5 yrs ago.

I agree with you there Tarzan, U2exit has been very helpful to all of us here , as well as everyone who replied with info on Prime. I just passed my CDL permit this morning. I will be putting in my app to Prime in the next couple of days. Thanks to all on replying to what we need as well as what to expect when we head down to Springfield.

I am thinking about trying Prime cdl training. Does anyone know if they have a wait list after u finish training? Or do u get started asap? Also do any of these truck stops have gyms? If not what is the best way to keep in shape on the road?
