After five years with JGR, I turned in the keys last May, 14th. I'd informed management that I would only be available for local runs and when I got back to the yard, the boss sent the owner's son out to tell me that I needed to move into one of the older trucks if I wasn't going to be OTR anymore. I'd been there over four years, paid my dues and got a new truck at the first of the year. I smiled and said he could tell the boss I wasn't going to move all my gear twice and give him my two weeks notice and I'd move out then. My book sales had just surpassed my trucking income the month before.

He called the boss then told me that my truck was needed for an OTR driver. I'd already learned it was going to a new driver in our Richmond yard that would be home just about every night. I told the son to call the boss back and tell him I was calling him a bold faced lyer and instead of two weeks, it was two hours and I started cleaning the truck out.

Within ten minutes the HR Manager called me and begged me to stay. I explained that I didn't need the job and resented the boss's constant micromanaging. Left on good terms with everyone, except the GM. Never did like him and he never liked me.

That was on 5/14. From that day to three months later, my book sales surpassed my driving income for all of last year and are on track to earn six digits this year, mostly in the last four months. I have four books published now, with number five coming out in two days.

I thought I'd miss the road, but being home with my family more than makes up for it and if I feel the need for the open road, I walk out to the garage and fork the motorcycle.

I've been out of the truck for just over a year now. Occasionally, I get a longing feeling when a truck goes by, especially if he's hauling over-sized. Just wanted to let you guys who have read my books know, that the seventh one will be published by the end of July and the second audiobook will be out next month. Right now, only Fallen Out is available in audiobook, on Amazon, Audible, and iTunes. It's the shortest of the six, but will easily get you 400 miles down the road.

Anyone in the Greenville, SC area, who's looking for a challenging, top-paying job, I still highly recommend J. Grady Randolph. Good equipment, great dispatchers, and flexible home time. Just avoid the GM whenever you're on the yard. He's an ######.
