I don’t get any bonuses, for those things like that. I get a bonus based on my performance of the whole fleet. Meaning if the fleet is on the field operating it’s typically cause they’re happy with rates and I’m doing something right. I’ll get a little bonus for that.

Everyone is different being an owner operator. Some gross 7-8k and some $4-5$ k depending on miles and lanes they run. The 4-5k guys are typically 3 days at home in 1800 miles or less a week.

The 7-8k guys typically pick up $2500+ on Friday, spend Saturday home, leave Sunday for Monday deliveries, and come back Friday. They average 2800-3200 miles a week in the current market.

 

Mid west, such as ILINMI to MSARTN and back.

Currently that’s the best money you’ll get. A lot of good paying loads are coming out of Tupelo, MS, light loads of foam. They will pay $2 a mile at the lighter side. And going to MS from up north will always pay you over $2 a mile. Depending on your negotiation you can average $2.40-$2.60 a mile on average of 2400 miles a week without tolls/mountains etc at the moment.

What’s your “skin” in the game suppose to mean?

 

In recent months they’ve pushed out a lot of auto parts for dirt cheap. GM closing 5 plants is putting a lot of contracted carriers out in the spot market, kind of like oilfield did few years back down in Texas. This has increased the truck capacity in the Midwest, especially KY-OH-MI area. Which has brought the rates down to almost a ridiculous $450-$600 freight rates.

 

But a lot of the carriers are out of the contracts.

 

I strongly agree. We have been doing quotes for next year, and so far we haven’t got a single lane secured. Under bidding has been couple of hundred bucks that we can’t beat. I sense some guys have high truck payments lol
