Saturday we spring forward 1 hour at 2AM. In the past I have always been home in the middle of a reset that was a lot longer than 34 hours. This year I am in a company hotel loading at 0830 Sunday morning. After postrip i went off duty at 2100 Friday night. I need to leave the hotel by 7:00 Sunday morning to make my loading appointment. That"s a perfect 34 hour reset except for the fact that we lost an hour do to Daylight Savings Time. It's really only 33 hours even though my log will show 34. Is this a problem?
Everyone else in the world loses an hour of sleep and still has to be at work. I'm interested to see if we're picked on here.
I honestly never thought it would be an issue. Sort of a perfect storm with this load. I will probably just run 8.75 a day and not worry about it.
33 hours is not a reset. It doesn't matter if it is Daylight Savings Time or not. Just flag the time change or write in the remarks section and move on. Make sure you don't go over your 70/8, or 11/14. The time change is on Sunday morning, not Saturday.
So do you show a 23 hour total for Sunday 3/8? That's the only way the math works out to 33 hours. The logging law say you have to have a continuous line. To accurately show this on the log you would need to leave a gap from 2:00-3:00 AM and flag that.
I would bet that if a company scans logs and uses a log computer program to generate reports that it would flag this as a violation. I wonder if DOT looks for this specifically this time of year. My guess is no because it rarely causes a problem. Is everyone going to log an 11 hour break tonight? That would be easier for DOT to catch than my situation.
The computers flag plenty of violations that don't exist . I've proven the computer wrong plenty of times .
Yes, it was only 23 hours. You flag it and or write an explanation in the remarks section so an auditor looking at your log later will will not forget about DST and write you up. I can't find anything in the regulations or guidance that addresses this, so I would use common sense. Something happened so flag it.
You would need to "allow" for the switch to DST and take an additional 1 hour off duty. IF you log it and do not take the extra hour off, you could violate the "70 in 8" at some point because you did not take your full 34 hours off.
