Talked with one Caterpillar engineer who is testing engines on engine dyno, he said max rpm on some marine ECMs for 3406E - C-18 is 2460 rpm. Not much but the peak power is at about 2100 rpm so they will give power at higher rpm than truck ECMs with peak power somewhere at 1700-1800 range. But, because those programs are made for big injectors they might give less fuel than truck program. That can be compensated with powerbox. Marine engines also have less strict emission standards so they might have better timing maps. No Jake or Cruise control, not very practical for OTR.

PDI is claiming they can modify the programming for whatever RPM you want up to 3400........but anything over 2700 has to have the valve train modified to keep the valves from floating.

Great, it was about a time! How long did it take that knowledge to travel from old continent to new continent, 15 years? It's a big sea..

If they can also change timing and fuel maps we will see some big hp numbers, 1500 hp from C-15 without smoke should be easy. No need for boxes or wires.

Running the valves loose causes the valve damage.Cat has denied warranty from valves slapping there seats and breaking off. Setting of 15-30 is where you want to be.

well it's only .001-.002 thousants not like a half inch off ........it compensates for wear as the valve works up in the head it will tighten up
