One thing I know first hand is that KY scales have some method of knowing whether or not there's a radar detector in a truck.
My buddy had his brand new Rocky Mountain detector taken from him there. The DOT officer kept hounding him until he coughed it up, even though my buddy kept insisting he didn't know what the guy was talking about.

Isn't having a radar detector in a commercial vehicle a heavy fine?
-
I don't remember what his fine was for that, but it was more than the radar detector which he had to watch the guy throw away. He only had the thing about a week.

They would have to literally dig mine out of my pants. If that's what they wanna do, have fun.

..and back to routing, are there two scales on the I-65 border? I drive south through there a lot, but not north. Maybe the TN scale is the one my bro has a problem with. Is it a superscale?
-
There's two scales on the northbound side about 10 miles apart from each other on either side of the line. I think there's two on the southbound side also, but can't remember for sure.
-
The TN scale just south of KY on I-65 isn't a superscale . It seems like KY does more roadside inspections than at the scale . They patrol the parkways a lot .
-
I know several people that have had level 1's at Elizabethtown scale on 65 southbound. -
me personally have never had a problem with KY.yes, they do patrol the parkways a lot.Hopefully you'll be fine just make sure your logs are legit and go from there.

I find it hard to believe that you drive the entire length of TN on I-40 and seldom see the scales at Brownsville or Knoxville open. The ones at Brownsville are seldom closed, I think, although I can't guarantee it, they are even open on Christmas Day, all day. Time was when you'd try to go around them on US 70 only to find them set up over there to catch folks trying to get around them. Ones are Knoxville are closed at times.
