They aren't buying many Mack trucks anymore. Most are in Volvo or KW anymore.

UPS and FedEx drivers are frequently seen doing 70+ mph with their trucks, but maybe their trucks are still good. Their freight is usually light.

I would consider buying a truck from a fleet that uses APUs on their trucks. Those truck will have less engine hours since they don’t really idle 10 hrs a day. I would also want a truck from a fleet that does not have a CDL training school. Students, unfortunately, damage trucks, at least on the outside.

It has nothing to do with flooding the market with used trucks. It is strictly a liability issue. They are afraid that some one would buy one of their old trucks, have an accident and some lawyer try to go after UPS because they have deep pockets since the new owner of the truck does not have as much or any money.

Unfortunately FedWrex is still using the trailers when they destroy them.

Are you thinking that 70+ mph is somehow harming the trucks?

I regularly drive at 62+ MPH, and the times I do 70 MPH, it is very noticeable the truck is working harder. I think it’s reasonable to say there is more wear and tear on the entire equipment when doing 70+ versus around 62. One thing we do know for a fact is that the truck will consume more fuel. Then there is the case that 70+ increases your chances of a moving citation and an accident.
