You guys are the heavy construction equipment guys. I'm learning. So buddy that had the IH M, it was his first tractor. He came from no money and 80 acre farm. To now he is 38 and farming 1200 acre. He did it the hard way. So few months ago he had to teach me how to run his new 4wd John Deere. He asked what is the newest you ran? Told him remember about 20 years ago we got drunk and you bought a IH 706 with high gear out? I said that's the newest. Boy he was doing a number 2 in High Cotton when he got a diesel. Still no cab.

They were a good tractor. Friend of mine still runs one. It's newer though as it has electric start.

The old pony motors weren't bad though, especially in the winter. Fire up the gasser, release the compression, run it at half speed for as long as you wanted to warming up the oil in the big engine. Then give her compression and fuel and away she'd go.

I have seen guys fight for days through those side covers trying to get the cutter pins and rod nuts off to keep from pulling the pan.

Then get mad as hell when I got the pan off and back on before a cat can lick his butt

Most that I've run had reversible fan blades too. Took a bit to swap them, but in the winter we would hang curtains (tarps) along the side of the engine and you would stay toasty all day long. Might get a bit dusty but it was worth the trade.

All of the ones I been around were converted to electric start. My Dad refused to let me around any of the old pony motors. Guess he was afraid I would get cooked lol

That reminds me...…...right about the time I got married (long time ago) the ranch that I was working at had an IH TD7 maybe? Anyway, it would start on gas and then you would switch it over to diesel.
All in the same engine. I remember it had a mag on it for the spark plugs...…..we were testing it out to get it started once and I got bit by that mag. Holly mother of God was that a zap. My hair has been curly ever since!

Neighbor had a Farmall 400, start on gas run on diesel. He told me never to run it out of fuel on diesel.

Made the Pinnacle Travel Centre in Stanley, ND for the night, holy crap is this place enormous inside. It's going to take a few visits to take everything in.

And in terms of distance, this place will be perfect for those weeks where I leave the yard empty, pick up, then get across the border for the night. I make Minot with just not enough time to get to Williston, but enough to make it here.
