Make sure when you drop the truck off that you take pictures of the truck and trailer both inside and outside with a time stamp including mileage and engine hours. If you think your soon to be ex employer is really going to give you a hard time, call the cops and see if they will meet you at your employers location to be a witness to you dropping off the equipment. Walk away and don't look back!

Being as it’s a 1099 posistion, i would say ok, but i demand to be paid in full for all work already performed and prepaid for this last run, before the truck moves.
You don’t have the labor board to back you, so you have to use what leverage you have.Rideandrepair, Curly88 and Jazz1 Thank this. -
You don't do anything you don't want to do. Not your business, not your problem. He's just jerking you around and going to milk you as long as possible. Enjoy your holidays
The few jobs I have quit are as soon as I pull into the yard. I never bothered to offer any explanation, none needed when employers description of job is a complete fallacy.Rideandrepair, SteerTire and Curly88 Thank this. -
That sounds like excellent idea,,,paid in full along with a generous Xmas bonus before the rubber hits the roadRideandrepair Thanks this.

Taking him to court to get money due could take years, even then you may never see any of it. At least with my idea you have a chance of getting paid.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

If you want to go full beast mode.. Your cell is dead and all communications are in writing. Whistleblower mode. If the situation warrants it.. Or if you suspect some foul play is about to occur. Paying those matching FICA and penalties for you and other drivers will scare the crap out of them so bad they may hand you the keys to the office. Key is understanding the law and also the IRS has a whole strike force to deal with 1099 scam tax cheats if it comes to that.
Rideandrepair and SteerTire Thank this. -
I’ve been told by an IRS Auditor. If you report someone for possible tax evasion. They start digging. But it could take months before they act.
Just my 2 cents. Which may be worth nothing.Rideandrepair and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this. -
The big deal about 1099 is there not pay into your workman's comp or your social security account, which will have a radical affect on you when you retire, A 1099 position is good if your really a independent contractor in business for yourself, But if your a company employee and there paying you as a 1099 contractor there screwing you , there saving money not you.Rideandrepair Thanks this.
