Back when I was about 19 I was hauling a load of big square bales and had to stop to tarp because of rain coming and was walking down the top at a rest area and there happened to be a little gap between the bales and never saw it through the tarp and lucky enough a van pulled up close to me and I caught the top of his truck but I was stuck fully extended between his van and my load wondering what I would break from that height and what felt like a few minutes the driver walked around the side to check the lights and saw me and went to get a load bar and push me back over to my trailer when I got down we had a good laugh but man did I come close to shi**** my self that day

Decks get so frigging slippery during winter as well. A moments lapse of attention and its over. Good thing you okay. Foot wear can also be critical.
Fatal falls off loads of logs or chips happened often enough up here that it is no longer allowed. Gantries supplied at sites so driver can tie off.jamespmack Thanks this. -
Glad ur okay driver #### like that can happen so quick thats what make us flatbeddere tough as nails... I seen a couple guys at the lumber yard having to tarp.. It seems most lumber yard i go to make u wear a safety harness if ur working on the trailer deck...theres always one driver #####ing and moaning about having to wear it not knowing that its about to save his life 10 minutes later when he slips off the top of that tarp cuz its raining.. Seen it a couple times now.. Slipped a couple times myself on top of the load but luckily could catch myself before gravity didjamespmack Thanks this.

Glad your good- Man you talk about Luck on your Side and the Good Lord watching over you- Falling off the Deck 4 or 5 feet BACKWARDS is usually Massive head trauma,
You guys be careful!
I've never fallen off BUT,Ive had the Ladder Fall down while I was tarping 8 wide 8 tall 48 long- No Deck to scale down to.
Screaming Bloody murder so someone could hear me to pick the ladder back up.
Last Resort if no-one is around? You'll have to Jump from the Load to the Roof of the Truck and Land in a way you don't go thru the Roof Or Stress A Pillars to break Glass.
And if you Have a Gay roof Fairing- Your Screwed.jamespmack, D.Tibbitt and OLDSKOOLERnWV Thank this. -
I figure I pushed out with the remaining leg, straight legged it on the other foot at the ground at enough of an angle that it pushed me sideways into a roll. Little enough force that, even though I landed on my bad ankle on one leg from 5 ft with my 290 lbs, it didn't hurt.jamespmack Thanks this.

An iced up trailer is about one of the most dangerous things. Was knelt down getting some chains set, stood up, next thing I know was hitting the ground
jamespmack Thanks this. -
At least you now know that if trucking doesn’t work out you can join the circus.

If he's driving a truck,he's already in the circus.
