Want some real fun? Take a trip to the southern regions of Austria, northern Italy. 15-20% grades with insane switchbacks. Those guys have a death wish.

 

They also have electric retarders that supposedly are equivalent to 750 hp of engine brake plus the truck engine brake

 

I saw those at the Winnipeg Truck Show in '89. Not sure why they did not get popular although they were heavy as I recall. Likely more popular in mining equipment.

Anybody doing the diamond mine runs out of yellowknife etc? Id like to give that a shot, is there anyone out of Ontario that runs up there for the ice road season? My buddy went up there and said it was just about the loneliest driving he had ever done....considering i hate people, it sounds like its right up my alley lol

I'm friends with a guy who hauled a load of diamonds out of dyvek* to the airport. You wanna talk about untouchable.

EVERYONE is afraid of those seals, cops, DOT, even government. He was pulled into a scale somewhere and when DOT was done with his paperwork he went back to look at the bills and seen the Dyvek logo and lost his ####. They pay unfathomable money to keep those loads safe. Full trailer of diamonds all rough going to be sorted for jewelry or industrial use. $$$

 

Sorted diamonds are flown from mine site to Yellowknife.
