These days tanker outfits are hiring right out of CDL school.
jdkart3 Thanks this. -
The money can be good if you don't plan to ever go home. My best week was $6k+ when I ran from NJ to Portland. Those didn't pop up often so a normal week is a run from Houston to the NE and back for about $3k/wk. Had to stop doing it because my kids forgot who I was. You may as well buy a house in Houston, though. You'd get home every week.
Oh, and you don't have to be a company driver at all. You just need to have some real miles under your belt.Last edited: Dec 23, 2018

Yeah, that truck payment and insurance sits right at $1000/wk before fuel. So, you need to gross $3k/wk to have a "normal" pay check whether your're moving or not. Gross $2k/wk just to not go in the hole. It's easy to make that and more but you have to stay on the road and keep moving.
I had one stop in Wisconsin in the last five years with Schneider. Maybe it's because I live in Atlanta but I'm not sure you'd ever get home to Wisconsin with a tank. Van, sure. They got freight everywhere for that.jdkart3 Thanks this. -
Ya that's kinda what im wondering to if there really is any runs out of Wisconsin i know there's gotta be something out of gary i don't wanna base anything off of recruiting they lie

I live in Houston and we have loads going to Wisconsin every week and also have a terminal in Illinois so there's no problem getting there for us(tanker)
Asphalt Anarchy and jdkart3 Thank this. -
If you can get home from Chicago easy then yeah, there's plenty of loads coming and going from there. A lot of times I would run the triangle Houston, NE, Chicago, Houston.

It depends on WHERE in Wisconsin you live and how much dead head into the house you are willing to eat. From what I see we don't have much tanker freight north of Milwaukee and Madison. Every now and then you will see a tanker in GB, but not often.
Frankly if you want to go OO and have flatbed experience you should go in that direction. Or look at Superior or Trimac if you want tanker work in WI -
