I don't believe we can write off tools as employees. I could look into seeing if I could rent or borrow the tool though.

here are a couple ideas

First off I would use plywood shins or folded mud flaps under the rear legs. Use a small sledge hammer to beat them under or use your winch bar to pry the legs up. You are trying to get the rocking to stop.

1 run a chain along the rail around 2 sets of stake pockets and then hook to the chain. Do this right at the rear legs. Thus will eliminate the back angle you have on pulling to the beam.

2 alternately if you can cross chain through the rear 45 degree braces on the back and pull down to the deck. Use some cut up strap as softeners if you are worried about the paint

3 anchor the strap to the rubrail but as close to the stake pockets or chain loops

The piece won’t likely weigh enough to get you into to much trouble for the remainder of the trip.

I plan on it, I dont have to pay for the straps but I've got to get quite a few more so I think the office isn't going to be too happy when I tell them I need 10 new straps so i can replace my broken ones and have spares, plus the edge protectors I've lost from these straps breaking.

Listen to us, as you will see you wont have broken hooks or ripped straps. We have been there and done that.

You should be able to write them off on taxes, anything that you have to buy for work you can, when I was a mechanic I could write off tools and clothes so you should be able to.

The strap breaking saga began when I put folded up pieces of strap under the rear legs to make it more stationary and all the feet touch the deck.

 

What cant write off tools as a employee. Dont ever say that in front of my accountant. I was a wrench long before driver. I saved recipts for books, tools, batteries, boots. You can write of everything you need for work unless the employer provides it. And no personal vehicle milage. Now with that said. I have dont know what 2019 will bring under the Butt Trump tax plan.

I will say this and close my mouth. You just said you had a concern with your side rail. I hate hooking them there. If you are not certain in your equipment error on the safe side.
