True. My company is generally a really good place to work, but I've heard stories about one terminal in particular where the environment is (or was at one time) pretty toxic. A lot of it boils down to what personalities dominate in the place.

Some places are laid back, others are angry and miserable.

Sorry it took so long to update. Lots going on at my end.

    2) No more small pack forays allowed. Orders from corporate. i know i said it was boring. And it was. But it was a good and easy way to make a lot extra $$$.

    3) (Ties in with #2 above) The layoffs are a coming..........
    The honeymoon may be over.

    4) i will probably not post too much more often; i'm putting a lot out, but not getting much in return.
    a) i may, or may not comment, on the subjects of "estrogen poisoning" and the push for "diversity," not just here at UPS, but in the workplace in general if there is time.

    UPDATE 12/21/18:

cAN'T Speak for small pack, but we at freight DON'T GIVE A #### ABOUT YOU OR YOU FREIGHT. We ONLY care about your money and nothing else.

The sooner you understand this, the better off you'll be.

    i recommend R+L.

This is totally sad a UPSF freight employee has to say this. This says a lot.

This week was not typical in that i worked at small pack the day after thanksgiving and thus made a crapload of overtime as you can see.

As i said, i would never work at small pack permanently. Too boring and the atmosphere is just weird to me. It's ok to make extra $$$ though.

Although the question is now moot because corporate says we cannot go to small pack anymore.

Can you be more specific about the small pack being boring? How often do you come to the terminals in Northeast PA? Willkes Barre, Old Forge and Allentown for example

My buddy at the terminal said its only gotten worse after the comtract was pushed through. Management trying to get more strict with rules, and things getting slow. Drivers not getting 8 in a day right now.

That bull that corporate pulled with the contract should have screamed to the employees that corporate dgaf about them. Some guys are too blinded to see it though.

i think ups small pack has ceased being a package delivery company long ago (ups freight has since followed suit) and has become a numbers company; So that alone means the emphasis is on numbers, not on the actual business of transporting packages----thus you're only there to produce numbers, the trucks are there only to make numbers. Everything's generic now.

When we were overnite, the trucks were looked upon not only has number generators, but also as trucks---and they were spec'd accordingly. These days, the so-called "fleet managers" don't know or care about spec'ing a truck----it's just there to get the job done and that's it. When we retire it from the road, we run it in the city----and it's all wrong for the city too.

Everything at small pack seems detached----one department doesn't know what another department is doing-----or even that another department exists. At least at freight, it still feels like one company, everyone working together. The mechanics come into contact with the office clerks and at least everyone knows each other.

i think one of the goals at small pack is to make everything as boring as possible, and i don't know why?

If you like being anonymous, just a cog-in-the-wheel, being bored out of your skull etc., then small pack may be for you.

Another thing to think about: How many workplace shootings have happened at small pack? How many at freight? For that matter how many shootings at ANY LTL company?

    2) Since i have an assigned route, i only go to the same terminals each night. But when i was on extra-board, i would come to NE Pa occasionally.

Despite the recent contract clash, despite SOME ups small packness leaking into our atmosphere, i STILL think this is a pretty good gig and possibly THE best gig in trucking.

I don't want to conflate this too far, but did you just say that small pack has had shootings because of boredom and feelings of anonymity? LOL

I have a feeling the eggnog is just being used for color.
