Class B drivers.

How are you safer? Did you rip down a telephone pole or something in a big rig?

 

I hear ya man. I’ve done Class A a lot of my career. I’m a month in with my new job and new city in a Class B tanker hauling fuel. I get paid a few bucks an hour more than the KAG boys and some others because of the WORK we have to do. That’s why I chose B.

Most Class B (not all) involves less driving and more work outside of the truck. At least it has in my experience. I’ll still do 12-14 hours a shift but only 2 if that is actually driving. Be outside in the winter at night is my least favorite part especially since I’ve lived on the California coast for 8 years. Nothing wrong with it. It all pays the same in my opinion and you still have to shift and do an air brake test.

 

USPS Class B MVO top out around $30 an hour...which equals $240 for 8 hours. They get paid time and a half after 8...which equals $90 for 2 additional hours. Then they get paid doubletime after 10...which equals $120 for 2 hours. And then they get paid doubletime and a half after 12...which equals $150 for 2 hours. That equals to $600 in one day for 14 hours. That then equals to $2,400 for 4 days of work at 56 hours. Anything after 60 hours is doubletime and a half. So $75 × 14 hours is $1,050 for everyday that's worked after 4 days. So a 6 day work week at 14 hours a day equals roughly around $4,500 for the week. Not to shabby for a Class B government job.

 

I have a class A cdl but I have chosen to drive dump trucks locally so I have home time with my kids. I make just as much money as I would over the road and honestly dump truck driving is fun!!
I occasionally have to drive the low boy which is a pain in the butt. I dont look down on anyone trying to make a living no matter what class their license is and if some people do that is not cool. Keep up the good work ,stay safe and enjoy. This is the best job in the world!

 

I recently got my Class B, about 1 1/2 weeks ago. I got free training thru a local school bus company. Have a passenger and air brakes endorsement. My plan is to stick with this company for a couple months and then start shopping around for a decent paying straight truck job. Should make it easier for me to find work with at least a couple months of driving experience.

 

That's how I started my driving career. I got a free Class B license through a bus company. Now I have a Class A, but the local job I just took is a Class B truck. I will be hauling hazmat. My kids are small and just being away during the week is just too much work for my wife on her own. I will have to resign this week or next from my flatbed job which is regional OTR.

 

i too really enjoyed dump truck, it is fun work..... it was fun right up until the construction season ended. i to class A milk tanker, home daily and i love it. work as much as i want, we never have down seasons.

 

This is an endorsement that I intend to add to my license after the holidays. I'm not worried about passing the background check that is involved due to actually living a clean and law abiding lifestyle.

 

I went from step deck and RGN with a lot of big loads to a triaxle dump with a beavertail float and now dump with a pony pup. Some would say a dump truck isn't a "real truck" but I'm heavier than anything else without O/S banners. So long as you aren't doing all the dumb #### cars do just because you have no trailer you're all right by me.

Ive done class B stuff.

I say this. Back home I fought a sort of discrimination among office people in trucking who thought class A was overqualified. When they interview in a office at a yard full of class A trucks in the rain as happened once at TBH Concrete in Westminster Maryland. They told me my Class A was overqualified. (Take a hint...)

Here in the south they hand you wantever, Class A or B doesnt matter here provided you are not trying to drive a 18 wheeler on class B. You are more than welcome here on TTR. I refuse to give anyone a hard time. Sometimes you smaller trucks do more work than some of us class A's Ive done plenty of dump truck work in my time. No worries. I miss my Mack Super Liner 500 with the 15. It was a good reliable truck. We probably still have it probably stored on the farm near the PA Line to this day.
