    Hi,
Just wanted to give you all a warning. If you are over weight, or your neck is larger then 17 inchs DO NOT GO TO Western Express.

I went down to Nashville on Sun and went stright to the Doctors mon for my DOT physical. Out of 15 of us there 3 passed the physical. Most of us failed due to being overweight which they say means we are at risk for sleep apynia. No test, just they look at your next size and figure out your BMI.

So, I am now back home headin for werner to do Family Dollar runs. But please guys if your a large person, lifted weights in high school dont go. Waste of friggin time. :biggrin_25510:

Seems to be a insurance requirement from Westerns insurance carrier.

The only thing more dangerous then being fat and driving a truck is being fat and smoking and driving a truck. (as long as you are not drinking booze while doing the rest:biggrin_255:)

If I am running a trucking company I want drivers that are lean and fit. Not ones that are going to shrink my bottom line or make my premiums rise. The current economy requires cost saving wherever you can find it. It business, not personal.

News Flash!!!!!! I've driven professionally for 29 years,I'm overweight and my neck size is well over 17 ins..NO accidents in all that time,no time loss for equipment abuse,NO workmens comp. claims and the only time I see a Doctor other than med. card renewel is once annually for physicals. Contrary to your opinion "Big Blue" not everyone can spend 2/3 of their life behind a steering wheel and maintain High School weight. Maybe people should be judged by their character ,ethics and core values rather than by their appearance like you seem to do!!:biggrin_25510:

I would think close about werner....Give KLLM a call, the pay is better, and they have a much better employee retention. I've heard a lot of good things about them.

Western Express start pay is 28cpm, kllm is 34. Western is not reimbursing drivers for school tuition, kllm is. Do a little more research. Theres a lot of better companies

Here's a great idea; Get in shape!! Push back from the buffet once in awhile. Instead of sharing your wealth of knowledge on the CB when hangin' around the truckstop, get out and walk around it!

And that has what to do with risk management when a Insurance company is giving hiring guidelines to a carrier?

Well I doubt anyone is wanting you to maintain HS weight. But I went from 250 down to 200 driving OTR so just apply the same pride you have for your driving record to being in shape and you will have no problem.:biggrin_25525:
Naw your appearance matters. Sorry but I have been there and done that, so the pity flag ain't being flown up this flagpole.

It's like my friend who's house stinks because of their pets, yet he can't smell it because he is used to it. Then he is blaming me for holding my nose when I am walking around the house rather than accepting the stink. I don't make reality, I live within it.

as far as the overweight goes you need to keep up on your current events. if the government inforces the doctors that we can see for medical than there is more than just the overweight you need to worry about.

I heard that 60% of Americans are over weight ,so are they using the same guidelines for nontrucking jobs? I doubt it.Yes I realize the issues but if they use weight as a hiring issue than maybe they should start looking at other risks, smoking drinking ect, they probably cost more then weight problems.
