Hotshot delivery driver, what is a fair wage for this job?

$807 take home in a 25% tax bracket is $1010 gross. 2 1/2 weeks time is $404 a week. $10/hour at 40 hours a week. Add in your road cost and time away from home and I would say you could do as well or better at a local, non-driving job.

 

That sucks. You should be earning .40 cpm. That would be a minimal living wage. $807, you likely qualify for gov't subsidies to help pay for groceries and housing. Your employer raping you.

 

There is a lot wrong with this story.

No per diem? Thats messed up.

Sleep in the truck? Without an official sleeper that is messed up and not legal. You can not log time in the back seat of a pickup as sleeper birth.

No CDL? A dually likely has a GVWR of over 12k and a two car trailer likely has a GVWR of over 14k. If your combined GVWR is greater than 26k you need a CDL. Look at the GVWR sticker in the door jam of the truck and the VIN sticker on the trailer. It does not matter if you weigh less than 26k if the two add up to over 26k you need a CDL.

As to pay if I was not given any per diem and expected to sleep in a pickup I would need at least $250 a day. That would allow me to get a cheap room, eat, and still make above minimum wage.

 

I hate stories like this .....whata scumbag boss. I couldn't look myself in the mirror paying someone that.....

 

Probably took away the Christmas bonuses too!

 

Probably enrolled in a Jelly of the Month club as a cover!

 

You should be grossing at least $1250 a week if not more
