This was a rare alternative I would use once in awhile when away from the truck on home time or something. Not even a weekly thing and not during my time out on the road. It sure beats having to drive to your truck for a message or stay in it the night before your return from home time (like one guy said he does) instead of staying in your bed at home while on home time.

As far as I know, there is no app. But having your messages sent to email already exists. It has to be set up by your company. And most won't do that even though it makes life 50 times easier.

33/119 runs near where I live. I park my truck less than a mile from it when I come home. I don't drive my truck on it but I drive it on WV5 when I come home, which is just about as bad. No hills but a lot of really hairy curves. A&R and Best Cartage drivers are on it all the time going to the Flying W plastic pipe plant in Glenville, though.
I drove my car on a part of 33/119 that I've never been on yesterday, between Glenville and Spencer. Lots of curves on that road.
I don't mind those kinds of roads as long as I'm not spending ALL EFFING DAY on them. That's how I felt when I took 82 between Montgomery and Albany that day. I won't ever do that again unless there's something going on on 280. 280 is only something like 17 miles longer and only sucks until you get out of Alabama.Last edited: Dec 29, 2018

@MIT it was a pleasure to have met you. Hope I helped you. Definitely hope I see you again. You're a good man. I'd love to see you again in the future once you've been on your own for a minute. Call me anytime.

How was the BOL botched? You remember?
-
Yup, but I'm gonna be honest with you and say I doubt I'll catch it next time. I don't mess with hazmat often enough to notice this stuff, and it's never happened before. The company that makes the product is apparently revamping their computer program that prints the BOLs. If it runs out of room on their new forms, it simply stops printing. It left off part of the technical name of the product, the hazard class, and packing group. Someone at Landstar caught it for me. I had already left, but was thankfully only 15 minutes away when I was told to turn around immediately and go back. They corrected the paperwork, but I still had to make additional corrections to it based on what our hazmat department wanted. When they were satisfied, I left. But that was some ridiculous looking paperwork. If I had been pulled in, I would have been nervous. As I'm sure you very well know, the DOT doesn't like bills with hand-written corrections. It was legal, to be sure. But if something like that bill makes this dumb trucker raise his eyebrows, it's a guarantee that it would do the same thing to a savvy DOT officer. Thank god for our hazmat department. If we didn't have it, I wouldn't ever haul it. Contrary to what most people think, hazmat does NOT pay more. That's an egregious incorrect myth. The only reason I ever touch it is if it's the only decent load option I have.MACK E-6 Thanks this.

You’ll catch that next time. Those are the most important parts.

Just make sure they appear in the right order and any hazmat is listed first. -
I have a resource available to me that I call "hazmat for dummies". It's awesome. I take a picture of the BOL and email it to our hazmat department. Wait for a minute, then call them. They look it over and decide whether or not I'm good to go. I don't move unless they tell me I'm cool. The really nice thing about them is that they are FAST, unlike most departments here. And, unlike most departments, they are 24/7/365. Hopefully they get appreciated as much as they should, because they're awesome. I know this... when I leave Landstar I'll never touch another HM load again.MACK E-6 Thanks this.

I know that you're right, and I feel like an idiot. I was low on time and I'm so used to grabbing paperwork and bolting. You're right though, that will definitely never happen again.MACK E-6 Thanks this.
