Cb wont transmit?

The talk back feature needs an external speaker that's capable of running talk back. It doesn't work through the speaker in the radio. People might not be hearing or replying to you simply because they don't have a radio...
Every radio comes with instructions that include how to set it up so it transmits and receives. Read and follow the instructions. If you threw the instructions out you can look them up for your radio online. I'll gladly get them for you and post them if you'd share what radio you have. You didn't mention whether you hear conversations or not. Do you hear conversations?

Read the manual and go through the setup as I suggested then, at a truck stop where there's surely someone there with a radio to answer you call out for a radio check. Go to channel 19 and say "Radio check, please reply if you hear me."
If nobody answers at a truck stop something's not plugged in or working right.

There are a lot of drivers these days that just don't have a CB radio.

 

What do you have the mike gain set at? Not familiar with that exact radio but the Uniden 980 with similar menu driven controls has a mike gain control that can be changed. If you have it set at 1 you would be barely audible. Also what is your SWR, if it is too high above 2.1 antenna will be reflecting signal back to radio rather than sending it out full strength.

 

Ask for help on-air. Does radio sound better with max mike gain or less? Speak closer or farther from mike.

A lot of guys won’t pay attention and say sounds fine.

Talkback set up of mike Gain won’t be same as radio reports. TB is only a start.

Once Gain best, then TB can be where you want it.

 

Well, Lazy: did you fix it and now you're "set" for good talking; or did you throw the thing away and you're "set" on getting another one?

 

Yeah, but, being the nosey type, I was just wondering what got it to "working fine."

Knowing that might let us help some other bloke with that type of problem.

 

I just don't get why people think this is a great thing, it takes the audio out of the mic amp chain and not anywhere else, it should be monitoring the audio from the signal itself.
