Question for you OTR guys:
We have a Flying J and a Loves off the freeway (I15) in Idaho Falls. Their prices are almost always 35 to 40 cents a gallon higher than another locally owned truck stop off of Highway 20. I understand the whole location thing, but that much higher in price? I realize that big fleets and fuel card members get discounts, but do the discounts cover 35 to 40 cents per gallon?
It doesn't affect us as we know where to buy fuel much cheaper, but I am curious if it is this way all around the country?cke, Shock Therapy, Al. Roper and 24 others Thank this. -
Yes sir, till Wednesday. I haven't done a darn thing the past 2 days cept sit on the couch, watch the tube and try to keep up on here, I don't see today being much different, lol. I do have to go cut some firewood and probably do some shootin with my son so it's not going to last forever.cke, Shock Therapy, wore out and 22 others Thank this.

It's like that all over.
When I was with Landstar the discount at Loves, Pilot and Flying J was 25 cents off the cash price. TA and Petro were 2.5 cents over cost so it was usually at least 35 cents off the cash price. On top of that they had negotiated to get 10 cents per gallon in rewards points at most of those places.
IMO it's all smoke and mirrors. I am spending less on fuel now that I buy it at the small off brand places.cke, Shock Therapy, Al. Roper and 24 others Thank this. -
It has to be. No way my company's owner would spend MORE on lower quality fuel. He didn't get to where he's at now by paying more for things.cke, Shock Therapy, wore out and 16 others Thank this.

Makes sense I guess.
On top of that they jack the price up another 4 or 5 cents per gallon to use a card.
Sawmill, you might get through here occasionally; there is a truck stop about three miles off of I15 on highway 20 called KJ's that all the local guys buy from. It is always a bunch cheaper than the big boys on the interstate.cke, Shock Therapy, Al. Roper and 22 others Thank this. -
I drove home yesterday from Georgia. Gas in the Carolinas and Virginia was $1.90 at loves and pilot, right off the highway. Smaller places were up to $1.00 more per gallon for gas.
Bout $0.65 flipped the other way for diesel tho.
Interesting comparison.
....n then we got up here where it’s just shy of $2.85 anywhere for gas.cke, Shock Therapy, Al. Roper and 23 others Thank this. -
I saw a $1.65 yesterday for 87.
